While much of the Washington press corps chased its usual collection of distractions, an Arizona rancher explained why voters should pay close attention to Democrat Governor Katie Hobbs.

Trump used the event to discuss the August jobs report, the Federal Reserve, and several executive orders supporting American ranchers.

The agriculture measures addressed predator-related livestock losses, country-of-origin labeling for beef, enforcement of the Packers and Stockyards Act, and improved market access for domestic meat producers.

Arizona rancher Casey Murph also described the dramatic improvement at the southern border under Trump.

The president said that “zero illegal aliens have come through the Southern border in the last 14 months.”

Murph quickly pointed toward resistance from Hobbs, who faces Republican Representative Andy Biggs in the Arizona governor’s race.

Murph said, “There’s a lot of them that Katie Hobbs is protecting,” before adding, “and we have to get those out.”

Trump agreed that his administration has been forced to battle Hobbs repeatedly. His verdict was refreshingly direct: “she’s bad news.”

That struggle extends beyond immigration enforcement and into election integrity.

A Republican backed dispute over whether Arizona can require people registering to vote to prove United States citizenship reached the United States Supreme Court this week, adding another major issue to an already consequential election.

The most powerful moment, however, came when Murph described what Hobbs and green energy interests could mean for his family’s livelihood.

Murph told Trump, “A ranch on state ground that I lease, it’s been in my family for over 100 years, Katie Hobbs has offered those lands up to solar development companies.”

Trump responded that the project could leave a “10 mile by 10 mile solar piece of black plastic” where ranching land once stood.

For environmental activists who romanticize industrial solar development, the destruction of a working ranch apparently counts as progress.

Murph then credited Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins with preventing the project from wiping out his operation.

Gesturing toward Rollins, he said, “If it had not been for your secretary of agriculture, I would already be gone, sir,”

The rancher made clear that the threat has not vanished.

“She’s managed to hold them off, not permanently, but if it had not been for her, I would not be a rancher anymore,” Murph added.

That testimony should be heard across Arizona before voters cast their ballots.

Hobbs has attempted to present herself as a reasonable figure, even selecting a former Republican mayor as her running mate, but her governing record tells a far different story.

Hobbs has issued a record number of vetoes against legislation passed by Arizona’s Republican majority legislature.

She has also faced corruption allegations while refusing to give voters the direct answers they deserve, a familiar maneuver from Democrats who suddenly lose their appetite for transparency when scrutiny arrives.

Arizona Republican Party Chairman Sergio Arellano has urged voters to reject the carefully manufactured disguise and support Biggs and his running mate.

Murph’s story gives Arizonans a concrete reason to listen, since radical policy is no longer theoretical when it threatens a family ranch that has survived for more than a century.

The election will help determine whether Arizona protects ranchers, secures its border, and supports Trump’s agenda, or continues down the path favored by Hobbs and the green lobby.
