Mitch McConnell Returns in a Wheelchair After 3-Month Health Mystery [WATCH]

Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) returned to the Capitol on Monday after an absence lasting months, addressing reporters following a reported fall in June.

The senator’s appearance marked his return to the Capitol after the June fall and a recovery process that he later described as both lengthy and frustrating.

His comments to reporters were brief.

During his statement, McConnell said he remains committed to passing the farm bill.

He also said he remains committed to holding Russia accountable, identifying both matters as priorities upon his return.

Before appearing at the Capitol, McConnell announced that he planned to cast his first Senate vote since the fall.

His office released a statement detailing his plans and addressing his recovery.

“Today, I’ll cast my first Senate vote since I took a bad fall back in June. I’m really looking forward to being back on the Senate floor and seeing my colleagues,” McConnell said in the statement released by his office.

The senator acknowledged that his recovery had not been easy. He also pointed to the lingering effects of childhood polio as an additional complication during that process.

“My recovery has been a long and often frustrating process, and the lingering effects of childhood polio haven’t made it any easier,” he continued.

McConnell said he had not yet completely recovered, placing his condition short of full strength.

He nevertheless said he had spoken with Leader Thune about his intentions as he continues physical therapy under the advice of his doctors.

“I’m still not quite back to 100%, but I’ve assured Leader Thune that, as I continue with physical therapy on the advice of my doctors, I will do my best to be present for tough votes when our Conference needs me.”

That commitment focused specifically on difficult votes when the Senate Republican Conference requires his presence.

McConnell did not claim that his recovery was complete, instead offering a measured account of his current condition and ongoing therapy.

McConnell also expressed gratitude for the continued messages that he and Elaine had received.

He specifically thanked fellow Kentuckians for their well wishes while discussing his return to more customary Senate business during the month.

“Elaine and I are very grateful for all the continued well wishes from our fellow Kentuckians, and I’m glad to get back to more of business as usual on their behalf this month,” he said.

McConnell’s return followed speculation about his health that had circulated before Monday’s appearance.

In July, conservative activist Laura Loomer and journalist Desiree Townsend cited unnamed sources while claiming that McConnell had been declared “brain dead.”

The claim from Loomer was posted on X and attributed to what she described as a source close to the White House.

Her post asserted that the senator would not return.

A “High level source close to the White House tells me Mitch McConnell is officially brain dead. He’s not coming back,” Loomer wrote on X.

McConnell did return to the Capitol on Monday, spoke with reporters, and announced plans to participate in his first Senate vote since the June fall.

His slower delivery was noticeable, while his own statement made clear that physical therapy and recovery remain ongoing.

The Kentucky Republican framed his return around Senate responsibilities, including difficult votes, the farm bill, and holding Russia accountable.
