When a man asked him to identify his favorite drag queen in Texas, Talarico supplied a name immediately.

“Mr. Talarico, so nice to meet you… I was there when you defended the drags,” the man says in the video. The friendly introduction quickly led to a much more specific question.

“Who’s your favorite drag queen in Texas?” the man asks in the video. Talarico did not hesitate, request clarification, or pause to search for an answer.

“Oh, my gosh. Probably Alyssa Edwards,” Talarico responds. The speed and certainty of the reply made the brief campaign exchange stand out.

Alyssa Edwards is the stage name used by Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson. Johnson has publicly described himself as “a drag performer that works with children” and has been an outspoken supporter of youth drag shows.
