Virginia AG Creates New Unit to Investigate Gun Manufacturers, Dealers

When you look at where criminals get their guns, there are actually very few examples of gun dealers or manufacturers doing anything wrong. There have been examples, sure, but when you’re dealing with tens of thousands of operations in a country the size of the United States, not everyone is going to play nice.

Virginia, however, doesn’t care.

Well, the current batch of people running the state don’t care, just to be clear.

In fact, one of the loudest such voices is the guy who joked about shooting a rival. No wonder he doesn’t trust anyone with a gun. It’s not like anti-gun AGs in the state have a great track record with their own gun ownership.

And now, officials in the Old Dominion State are focused on the wrong thing.

Virginia Attorney General Jay Jones announced Tuesday the creation of a new unit that will investigate firearm dealers and manufacturers and take legal action against companies that violate state law.

The Firearms Accountability & Industry Responsibility Unit, or FAIR Unit, will work within the Attorney General’s Office.

The unit was created after the Virginia General Assembly passed a new law in 2026 that sets standards for how firearm industry businesses must operate.

The FAIR Unit will investigate businesses across Virginia and can file civil lawsuits against companies it finds have violated the law. The office can seek damages, repayment for losses and court orders to stop certain practices.

“Creating safer communities starts with holding dealers and manufacturers accountable when they are reckless with the lives of Virginians,” Jones said. “The FAIR Unit will play an integral role in building lasting public safety in our communities.”

To be clear, there’s no evidence that anything Jones said here is true. Many of the guns in criminal hands are stolen or were the result of a straw buy, and contrary to what the Left wants you to believe, not every straw buy is obvious. The smart ones aren’t, and neither are those who buy with the intent to sell to someone else. They’re looking for themselves, not a particular person, and that makes it harder to detect.

The focus Jones is taking here has nothing at all to do with making Virginians safer and everything to do with punishing the very institutions that make the right to keep and bear arms possible.

I’ve said for years that one of the goals of the gun control establishment was to destroy the gun industry. That way, if they can’t actually ban gun ownership, they can simply make it moot since you have no way to get a firearm.

That’s what this really is. It’s about punishing gun dealers and manufacturers who might have been following the law, but missed something because, surprise! They’re human and not freaking robots.

And considering the state of AI, I’m pretty sure the robots would miss this stuff, too.

It’s absolutely disgusting, in part because Jones is such a hypocrite about guns. He literally said he’d shoot an opponent twice instead of Hitler and Pol Pot, two mass murderers. He has no moral authority to say jack squat about anything.

Especially on guns, where he doesn’t seem to even have a clue how criminals get guns.

Or worse, and probably more likely based on his own track record, he does and just doesn’t care.
