WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Antonio Brown accepted a plea deal that his attorney says will spare him prison time in his Miami shooting case.
  • The agreement reduces the original charge and will result in probation instead of a potential 20-to-30-year prison sentence.
  • Brown was released on a $25,000 bond after entering a not guilty plea and was ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
  • Brown awaits the scheduling of a hearing that will officially seal the plea agreement.

A little more than 10 months after his arrest, former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown appears to be nearing a conclusion to the legal case surrounding a shooting in Miami. Brown, 38, has accepted a plea deal that his attorney says will keep him out of prison.

Fox News reported the development in a post on X, describing an agreement that substantially reduces the charge Brown originally faced. The report said probation would replace the possibility of a lengthy prison sentence.

“Former NFL star Antonio Brown has accepted a plea deal that will spare him prison time in his Miami shooting case,” FOX News shared on X. “Brown’s attorney says the agreement dramatically reduces the original charge of second-degree m*rd*r and will result in probation instead of a potential 20-to-30-year prison sentence.”

The case stems from a May 16th boxing event last year in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood. Brown became involved in an argument with another man and reportedly took a handgun from a security staff member before firing two shots at Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu.

Initial reports at the time suggested that Brown had been arrested after the incident. Brown responded on social media the following day, giving his account of what happened and saying police had only detained him temporarily.

“I was jumped by multiple individuals who tried to steal my jewelry and cause physical hard to me,” Brown wrote in a post on X. “Contrary to some video circulating, Police temporarily detained me until they received my side of the story and then released me. I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT AND WAS NOT ARRESTED.”

Brown also said in that post that he planned to take legal action against the individuals. Nantambu, meanwhile, told investigating authorities that one of the bullets fired by Brown had grazed his neck.

An arrest warrant was issued for Brown on July 11th, one month after the incident. He was charged with second-degree attempted m*rd*r with a firearm, leaving him exposed to the possibility of decades in prison.

Within days of the warrant being issued, Brown appeared to have left America. He posted pictures from the Middle East through his social media accounts, continued sharing similar updates and engaged with football narratives surrounding his former team.

In November 2025, U.S. Marshals took Brown into custody in Dubai. He was flown from Dubai to New Jersey, where he was held before authorities extradited him to Miami.

Brown eventually entered a not guilty plea to the charge and was released on a $25,000 bond. He was also ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor while the case proceeded.

Mark Eiglarsh, Brown’s lawyer, said accepting the plea agreement allowed Brown to avoid the possibility of spending decades in prison. Eiglarsh also maintained that Brown’s decision to accept the deal should not be viewed as an admission of guilt.

“He is not accepting this agreement because he suddenly agrees with the State’s allegations,” Eiglarsh said, per Fox News. “He is accepting it because the State made him an offer he couldn’t refuse.”

Eiglarsh said Brown weighed the prospect of continuing to fight the case against the time and personal cost that could come with doing so. His statement specifically addressed Brown’s family and the possibility that the legal process could continue for years.

“There is a profound difference between believing you can win a case and deciding that you and your family cannot afford to spend another year, or potentially several years, wearing an ankle monitor and fighting it.”

Brown is now waiting for a hearing to be scheduled so the plea agreement can officially be sealed. That hearing stands as the remaining step described in the report before the legal troubles that have followed him for more than a year reach their conclusion.
