WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
  • Beck says France’s unrest reflects a growing “Red-Green Alliance.”
  • He says Marxist and Islamist movements are converging in the streets.
  • Beck argues real economic grievances are being politically exploited.
  • He warns similar instability could spread beyond France.

Glenn Beck is warning that the unrest unfolding in France reflects more than ordinary demonstrations, arguing that the mix of Marxist revolutionary politics and pro-Islamic activism represents what he calls a “Red-Green Alliance” that could eventually produce similar instability in the United States.

Beck pointed to the presence of Palestinian and Algerian flags at street barricades in France as evidence that the demonstrations are taking on a broader political character.

“In France, Palestinian flags and Algerian flags are at the barricades,” Beck said.

He connected the current scenes to France’s long history of revolutionary street politics, noting that barricades have repeatedly played a major role in French uprisings.

“Anybody you ever see Les Mis? Barricades keep showing up in France,” Beck said.

Beck then described the wide boulevards of Paris as a response to earlier eras of urban revolt, arguing that city planning was shaped in part by the desire to prevent revolutionaries from easily blocking narrow streets.

“That is why Paris has the wide boulevards,” Beck said.

He said the same type of street confrontation is now reappearing.

“They’re doing it again. Okay, they’re showing up to the barricades with Palestinian flags and Algerian flags, huh?” Beck said.

Beck argued that French police are beginning to notice that the people taking part are not necessarily just students or people with narrow economic grievances.

“Police are now saying, “Wait a minute! I’m noticing that there’s a lot of non-students on the line with vague demands. What?” Beck said.

He said that development is part of what he considers a larger ideological coalition.

“This is the Red Green Alliance. What’s happening there is coming to America. Pay attention. You’re seeing it happen now in real time,” Beck said.

Beck explained what he means by “Red-Green Alliance,” describing “Red” as the revolutionary Marxist left and “Green” as Islamist political influence rather than environmental activism.

“Red is the old revolutionary Marxist left, the communists, the street unions, the people who still think it’s 1968 a dress rehearsal,” Beck said.

He then clarified his use of the term “Green.”

“Green is the a lot of people think it’s climate. That’s not climate. It’s not climate. It’s the Islamic, the Palestinian, the Algerian flag,” Beck said.

Beck argued that the unrest is taking place against the backdrop of real economic and fiscal problems in France. He said schools are underfunded and the government is deeply in debt.

“The schools are underfunded because the state is broke, and none of the politicians will tell the French people, “I’m sorry, you can’t live this way anymore,” Beck said.

He drew a direct comparison to the United States, arguing that American political leaders face similar difficulties in confronting unsustainable spending.

“Just like our politicians won’t say you can’t live this way anymore, we can’t keep spending all this money,” Beck said.

According to Beck, the French government is struggling to manage its debt and pass a budget.

“They are completely broke. They’re drowning in debt. The prime ministers can’t-they can’t pass a budget,” Beck said.

His concern is that the response to those legitimate grievances is not reform, but more street confrontation.

“And the answer from the Red-Green Alliance is not reform. It’s more street, more flags, more legitimate violence, as they say,” Beck said.

Beck warned that the pattern in France should be watched closely because he believes it could spread elsewhere.

“Watch the pattern, because it’s happening in France. It’s going to happen all over,” Beck said.

He argued that economic grievances can be genuine while still being used by political movements to organize unrest.

“The grievances will be real, but the organization of the violence is nothing but political,” Beck said.

Beck said students and younger demonstrators are especially vulnerable to being used by more ideological political actors.

“And the kids, the the teenagers, and the and the college people are they’re the battering ram,” Beck said.

He closed with a warning about what he believes those political groups are trying to produce.

“And the Red Green Alliance does nothing but harvest violence. They’re lighting a match. Good luck.”
