Pentagon Makes Major Move with Key UK Base After Terror Plot with Possible Iran Ties [WATCH]

All U.S. Air Force bombers deployed to the United Kingdom have returned to their home bases in the United States following a suspected terrorist plot near a key American military facility, according to officials.

U.S. officials have suggested the suspected plot may be connected to Iran. The aircraft were removed from Royal Air Force Station Fairford in Gloucestershire, England, the only European forward operating location for American heavy bombers.

About a dozen B-1 bombers were among the aircraft removed from RAF Fairford, a U.S. official told Fox News. The sweeping relocation pulled the deployed bomber force from a strategically important base used for American operations in Europe.

“We can acknowledge now that all U.S. bombers that were deployed to RAF Fairford have redeployed to their home stations in the United States,” a department official said.

The Pentagon emphasized that the relocation has not diminished the bomber fleet’s ability to carry out long-range strike missions. Those missions can be launched directly from the continental United States whenever necessary, according to the official.

“The Airmen that operate America’s bomber force, including B-1s, B-2s, and B-52s, remain ready to deliver precision global strike capabilities – including through operations that launch and recover from the continental United States – anywhere, anytime,” the official said.

RAF Fairford functions as a key European base for American heavy strategic bombers. The installation has supported U.S. military operations, including missions targeting Iranian sites.

The security concern emerged after three suspicious vehicles were discovered near RAF Fairford last Sunday. U.K. officials said the vehicles contained fuel accelerants, prompting authorities to investigate the incident and possible connections to Iranian state proxies.

“We can confirm that no improvised explosive devices were found. However, a quantity of petrol was recovered,” officials said.

Authorities eventually arrested a dual British and Iranian national “on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts.” The investigation focused on potential ties between the incident and proxies connected to the Iranian state.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio later said the suspected plot “clearly involves the hands of a foreign actor.” President Donald Trump also addressed the case while speaking with reporters last week.

Trump said the incident may have been connected to Iran. The United States has been at war with Iran since February.

Six people were arrested in connection with the incident. That group included five British nationals who were in their early 20s.

Police later released all the suspects on bail while keeping the investigation open. Officials defended the decision to release the five British nationals, acknowledging that the development could surprise members of the public following the case.

“I understand why this development will have come as a surprise to many, but I’d like to reiterate that it was an investigative decision, and one which is grounded in experience and careful consideration of policing powers,” officials said.

The bomber withdrawal included aircraft shown operating from RAF Fairford before the suspected plot. Ground crews had prepared to load munitions onto a U.S. Air Force B-1 bomber at the installation on March 11, 2026.

Police were also photographed standing at a roadblock near RAF Fairford on Sept. 27, 2026, after authorities declared a major incident nearby. Officials have maintained that no improvised explosive devices were found, although petrol was recovered from the suspicious vehicles.

For now, every U.S. bomber deployed to RAF Fairford has returned to its home station in the United States. The Pentagon maintains that crews operating the B-1, B-2 and B-52 fleets remain prepared to conduct global precision strike operations from American soil.
