Cam and I have now both talked, to some degree, about what happened in Sacramento when someone shot up an ABC affiliate, ostensibly because Jimmy Kimmel got bounced from late-night television. That was one of the major stories of the weekend, and for good reason.

I mean, you can’t just shoot up a television station over politics and not get written about.

But with such a news-busy weekend, what with the memorial service for Charlie Kirk and all, it’s easy to miss a few stories or just not be able to fit them in.

You see, there was another politically motivated shooting that took place.

Two shootings over the weekend, and it’s funny how people fumble over themselves to cover it without covering it, as Jim Geraghty over at the National Review noted.

I won’t get into his discussion of Sacramento, but beyond that…

Meanwhile, across the country on Saturday night, a former employee of a country club in Nashua, N.H., returned and started shooting people.

This might be just another case of a disgruntled former employee lashing out through violence . . . or maybe not:

Some shooting witnesses said they heard Nadeau yelling phrases like “Free Palestine,” but investigators said they do not believe the shooting was hate-related.

“We don’t have any evidence at this time that Mr. Nadeau was motivated by hate-based motivation. In fact, I would say that the evidence leads us to believe this was more likely Mr. Nadeau was simply trying to make a number of statements to create chaos in the moment,” New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said.

I notice the CNN article about the shooting doesn’t feel compelled to mention what “statement” the alleged perpetrator made:

Nadeau, who had not worked at the club for about a year, reportedly made multiple statements during the shooting that authorities believe were designed to create confusion, Formella said. Investigators are still working to understand his motive.

The guy’s tearing through a country club, murdered one person, is attempting to murder others, and you’re telling me he was also simultaneously attempting to create confusion about what his actual views on the Middle East were? What, he was a really clever Zionist?

For what it’s worth, state Attorney General Formella is a Republican. Maybe the witness misheard the shooter, or maybe “free Palestine” was mixed in with a bunch of incoherent nonsense.

I want to trust authorities when they characterize the motives of violent criminals. But it’s difficult, after the U.S. Department of Justice initially released the transcript of the Pulse nightclub shooter’s 911 call but removed references to ISIS because, Attorney General Loretta Lynch claimed, they did not want to “further [the shooter’s] propaganda.”

Bingo.

I want to trust these statements, too, but I just can’t. Not anymore, and someone being a Republican doesn’t mean they’re automatically trustworthy. I mean, just look at Tennessee for a second.

Geraghty notes that it’s possible this was one statement in a sea of babble, that this guy looks political on the surface but is really just a nutjob like the guy who shot two lawmakers and their spouses, killing one couple, and then said he did it on Gov. Tim Walz’s orders, but we don’t know at this point.

Let’s keep in mind that both of these acts took place just days after Charlie Kirk’s assassination.

They took place as many on the political left were celebrating Kirk’s murder, all because he voiced the wrong opinions. It’s just a few months after one of those “Free Palestine” types firebombed the Pennsylvania Governor’s Mansion because Gov. Josh Shapiro supports Israel. It’s not long after Tesla dealerships and personally owned Teslas were vandalized, many of them torched, all because Space Man was friends with Bad Orange Man.

Over and over again, we’re seeing these things happen, and then people like CNN downplay the political angle. This happens with anyone who might potentially make the left look bad, while they wasted no time at all making sure everyone knew the Minnesota assassin (alleged) was, in fact, on the right.

Maybe it’s just me, but pretending there’s no political component to most of these incidents when it’s pretty clear there is won’t exactly help with de-escalating the current climate.

It’s almost like they want this to continue, if not get worse. Kind of like it’s good for ratings, and we all know CNN needs all the help they can get with those.
