Anti-Gunners Celebrate Arizona Veto of Bill Strengthening Preemption

For four years, we heard Democrats–almost all of whom were anti-gun–talk about how no one was above the law. Now, this is a sentiment I agree with. No one should be above the law. That’s why I want things like the Epstein client list made public, followed by very public arrests.

No one is above the law.

In Arizona, I suspect a lot of state office-holding Democrats agreed with that when the world seemed to be closing in on Donald Trump. Now, though? Now, I guess they have a problem with making sure no one is above the law, and anti-gunners are loving it.

Several gun-ban groups are cheering Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs’s veto of a measure that would have bolstered the Grand Canyon State’s firearms preemption law.

Senate Bill 1705 would have put some teeth into Arizona’s firearm preemption laws by allowing a court to impose a $5,000 civil penalty on government officials who knowingly violate state firearm regulations. Additionally, it would have prohibited the use of public funding to defend or reimburse those who breach this law.

…

In its statement, Moms Demand Action took exception to the proposed fines that would have been imposed on crooked politicians for violating the state’s preemption law.

“SB 1705 would have punished individual local officials with monetary fines simply for trying to protect their communities from gun violence,” the group stated. “This was just the latest effort by the Arizona legislature to safeguard the gun industry.”

So-called Everytown For Gun Safety, in its response to the veto, chose to make it all about protecting gunmakers.

“SB 1705 would have punished individual local officials with monetary fines simply for trying to protect their communities from gun violence,” stated a news release from the so-called Everytown for Gun Safety. “This was just the latest effort by the Arizona legislature to safeguard the gun industry.”

Well, that makes no freaking sense.

The gun industry isn’t what’s impacted by a measure like this, just the politicians who opt to violate existing state law.

From the bunch that like to pretend that no one is above the law. How freaking typical.

This isn’t that different from how they say they want local governments to decide their own gun laws, but take exception to Second Amendment sanctuary counties or cities. What they mean is that they want local communities to decide to pass more gun control and absolutely nothing else.

Yet the thing that’s missing from all of this is that preemption is still on the books in Arizona. It’s still illegal for local governments to create their own gun control laws. All this did was penalize local lawmakers who tried to violate state law.

And it’s pretty clear that this bunch doesn’t actually care about the law. They care about making it as difficult as possible to get a gun and literally nothing else.

I honestly don’t see how anyone takes these people seriously.

I really don’t.

Unfortunately, they do take them seriously, including oh so many of their pet politicians who made it very clear that some people really are above the law.
