In a world where every Republican president is called “literally Hitler,” it’s not surprising that many see the actions of President Donald Trump as particularly troubling. He was never going to win their approval, after all, and he’s not interested in trying.

From deploying the National Guard to help deal with the Los Angeles riots earlier this year to federalizing the law enforcement efforts in the District of Columbia due to violent crime, he’s not exactly making moves to mollify their fears.

But some are acting like we have some obligation to do something.

2nd amendment people who warned about a tyrannical government are real quiet right now

— Keith Edwards (@keithedwards) August 11, 2025

It’s not the first time I’ve seen a sentiment like this. Plenty of people made similar comments during Trump’s first term.

Second Amendment attorney Kostas Moros had a pretty good reply to this one on Tuesday evening.

That’s because most of us don’t think the federal government cracking down on the nation’s capitol (a federal district) with a high homicide rate is tyranny. It’s literally their job.

But also, it’s not our job to go start a revolution whenever you demand we do, especially given… https://t.co/GxMzktdDY3

Post continues:

But also, it’s not our job to go start a revolution whenever you demand we do, especially given you hate us. You have a Second Amendment right too, knock yourself out.

Bingo.

They don’t get to pick what we’re upset by. They don’t get to pick what we consider tyrannical, much less tyrannical enough to start shooting people over it. Especially since Keith up there isn’t exactly fond of the right to keep and bear arms in the first place.

Of course, he says we should ban guns while also thinking Trump is a tyrant, which doesn’t make a lot of sense to me in the least, but what can you do? Gun grabbers usually don’t make a lot of sense.

Anyway, this sentiment, that we should take up arms anytime the other side of the political divide thinks we should, is as fascinating as it is annoying. It suggests that they’re counting on us to start whatever happens, but they expect us to do it based on their own notions of right and wrong. They forget that crime is a problem that this side of things wants solved, and that we believe gun control doesn’t solve the issue. As I’ve noted before, thanks to Moros above, the non-gun homicide rate in this country is higher than the total homicide rate in others, which tells us it ain’t the guns that are the problem.

So, Trump is trying to do something where he can, and it’s not outlandish for him to do it. Especially when the DC police union says that, contrary to what you’ll hear on CNN, crime really is out of control.

And we’re not upset over it.

Moreover, you don’t get to campaign to take away our means to resist tyranny, then decide you also get to be the arbiter of what we consider tyrannical. You don’t get to engage in blatantly un-American politics and then decide we should start shooting the people you don’t like because we’re American enough to defend our rights. You don’t get a say in the matter at all.

If and when we feel the government crosses the line, we’ll act then. We’ll get noisy on our terms, not yours, especially as you aren’t remotely interested in putting your own posterior on the line.

I have no trouble with the idea of being shot for others. I do have a problem with someone thinking I should risk being shot for them when they believe in the exact opposite of everything I stand for.

You’ve got the same rights as me. Man up and act on your beliefs, or shut the hell up and get another soy injection.

Editor’s Note: Contrary to what an actual tyrant would do, President Trump, along with Republicans across the country, are doing everything they can to protect our Second Amendment rights and right to self-defense.
