Bizarre Incident in D.C. Suburb Highlights Importance of Our 2A Rights

A woman in the D.C. suburb of Alexandria, Virginia is warning a trio of late-night visitors to her family’s home that she could exercise her Ssecond Amendment rights if they return, and the city’s police chief is echoing her call to arms. 

It was Tuesday evening around 10 p.m. when three individuals dressed in Halloween masks showed up at a home and began knocking on the door.

“At first I thought it was just a Halloween joke, a little prank,” said Shayla, it’s her mother’s home. “So I said, ‘Happy Halloween.'”

But the knocking got louder and more aggressive.

“They kept like knocking on the door,” she said. “The knocks would get harder and harder.”

Despite Shayla calling 911 and warning the group that police were on the way, the masked individuals continued shouting and trying to force their way in.

“It’s either you coming out or we coming in,” one voice can be heard saying on the video. Another shouted, “Open the door!”

Shayla said the group threatened their lives.

“They threatened to kill us,” she said.

Shayla says the group then moved to the rear of the home, where they broke down a fence and slashed the screens of the back porch before banging on a rear window and threatening to smash through the glass with a chair. 

The three continued their threats for about ten minutes, but left before Alexandria police arrived at the home. 

“It could have been bad,” she said. “Our Second Amendment right was not used and could have been, like being very transparent.”

To the people responsible, Shayla had a message:

“That was giving grown, grown-up activity,” she said. “The time frame alone, 10 o’clock at night to knock on someone’s door in costume is never OK. Halloween, not Halloween, it’s never OK.”

Alexandria Police Chief Tarrik McGuire, speaking at a press conference on Thursday, said what the trio did constitutes burglary under Virginia law, and warned, “do not go up to people’s doors, make threats, advance their doorways, and play with their lives — because it can end very badly.” 

Incidentally, this may be the first time a police chief in Alexandria, which is a very blue part of Virginia, has ever expressed the slightest bit of support (or even recognition) of our right to defend ourselves in our homes. 

Alexandria authorities say they continue to investigate the incident, including analyzing video footage from homes and businesses in the area in the hopes of identifying the trio. McGuire says two vehicles were seen in the vicinity of the home at the time of the incident, but he hasn’t disclosed whether police have been able to get license plate information or any other identifying characteristics that might lead to an arrest. 

It’s also unclear at this point whether Shayla and her family were specifically targeted or just happened to be the randomly-chosen victims of the three individuals. Either way, what happened to them is truly disturbing, and I’m glad that Shayla is apparently ready to exercise her Second Amendment rights if they try to gain entry to her family’s home again. 

It could be that this was just meant to be a prank, but these individuals caused legitimate fear and terror to their targets. Like the idiotic “door kick” challenge on TikTok we reported on earlier this year, doing something like this can easily lead to someone using lethal force to defend themselves from what they reasonably believe is an imminent threat to their safety and the safety of their family.
