Gun storage is a good thing. Responsible gun owners tend to have a gun safe somewhere in their home, or at least a cable lock they can use to keep guns out of unauthorized hands.

This is one thing that, to some degree, both sides of the gun debate can agree on.

It’s just a when we get to the matter of how far things should go that we run into roadblocks.

Brady, the notoriously anti-gun organization, just revamped one of their websites to push their own agenda on gun storage.

Now, its latest update is endfamilyfire.org, a website that provides users with a self-assessment that can help them draft a personalized firearms storage policy.

“Gun owners admirably want to put their family and safety first, and their choices to safely and securely store firearms protect families and communities all over the country,” Brady President Kris Brown said in a statement.

“Whether it’s for a longtime gun owner who needs a reminder to reconsider storage amid life or household changes or a new gun owner who is not yet aware of storage risks and options, EndFamilyFire.org provides personalized guidance so everyone can feel informed on the best way to safely store their firearms,” Brown added.

Now, this shouldn’t be too bad, right? We agree that gun storage is a good thing, after all.

For the most part, it’s not as bad as it could be. I took their assessment, and it was a bunch of gobbledygook that just repeated the same talking points no matter what you checked, and there wasn’t really anything that felt personalized in any way.

Plus, they push the idea that ammunition should be stored separately from the firearm.

While this would make a firearm much safer should unauthorized hands get hold of the firearm, it also means it’s unusable in the event of a home invasion, where you have just seconds to access that weapon.

This is what happens when anti-gunners start trying to offer advice on what people should do with a firearm. Most of them have never even touched a firearm, much less have any familiarity with them. They don’t have a clue about the defensive use of a gun, so when they start dishing advice, they can’t even comprehend that their suggestions aren’t viable if a gun is intended for self-defense.

And why do most people buy guns these days? Self-defense.

It kind of reminds me of what we learned about Everytown’s so-called firearms training. It’s training by people who really don’t know what they’re doing, and it’s advice from people who don’t know what they’re talking about.

They just think they’re experts because they only look at one side of the debate and know that side very well.

But at the end of the day, it’s just another mechanism to push an anti-gun agenda. Especially when we know that all the people who get killed following Brady’s advice will just be used to bolster Brady’s rhetoric about a gun not being useful for self-defense.

Is that on purpose? I’d like to think it’s not, but I wouldn’t put money on that being the case.

If you’re serious about wanting to keep your family safe, though? Well, the NSSF has you covered with its Project ChildSafe, which was created by people who actually knew what they were talking about.
