Breaking: Three Detainees Shot at Dallas ICE Facility, Two Fatally

Authorities say the individual who shot at least three people at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Dallas, Texas this morning has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. 

Little information is known about the victims at this point, with Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons telling CNN “It could be employees, it could be civilians that were visiting the facility, it could be detainees,” adding that, “at this point, we’re still working through that.”

The Dallas Morning News, reports, however, that the individuals who were shot were all detainees at the facility, and two of them have passed away from their injuries. 

 More than 40 police units responded about 6:40 a.m. to the scene in the 8100 block of North Stemmons Freeway in the Stemmons Corridor, according to a Dallas police call log. 

… Dallas police said the shooter, who was not publicly identified, fired from an “adjacent building.” U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem wrote on X that the suspect is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“While we don’t know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them,” Noem said. “It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.”

The Dallas ICE field office is a frequent backdrop for protests over Trump-era immigration enforcement. Demonstrations this year have included CAIR-DFW and Students for Justice in Palestine, the Brown Berets de DFW, and regular prayer vigils by interfaith clergy and Faith Commons.

Speculation about the motive behind the attack will be rampant, and it will take some time for authorities to figure out if the detainees who were shot were the intended targets of the shooter, or if the suspect was intending to go after ICE agents or employees. 

DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News that a bomb threat had recently been received at the same building where this morning’s attack took place, though it’s not known if there’s a connection between the two incidents. The building itself is not a detention facility, but serves as as an ICE field office. 

Fox 4 in Dallas has some additional details, though these have not been confirmed by official sources. 

According to police sources, the suspect was a sniper on a roof armed with a rifle. The shooter, identified by police as a white man, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head as agents approached.
