British Man Arrested for Mass Stabbing on UK Train

Something I’ve said for quite a while now–and I’m not alone in saying this, mind you–is that even if guns weren’t around, bad people would still do horrible things. There just wouldn’t be any chance for the good guys to stop them from doing them.

That’s especially true with things like mass public shootings.

Unfortunately, the United Kingdom got a reminder that I and many others were right when we said so, as 10 people were brutally stabbed on a train.

A man has been charged with 10 counts of attempted murder over a mass stabbing attack on a British train on Saturday evening that targeted passengers as they traveled through central England on their way to London.

The attack left nine people in need of treatment for life-threatening injuries, one of whom was still fighting for his life in hospital on Sunday evening, after what the British Transport Police (BTP) declared a “major incident.”

The man charged, Anthony Williams, 32, of Peterborough, will appear in court on Monday. He is further charged with one count of actual bodily harm and one count of possession of bladed article in connection to the mass stabbing in Cambridgeshire, according to BTP.

The man is also charged with another count of attempted murder in connection with a separate incident that happened earlier on Saturday at Pontoon Dock Station in London.

Police are working to determine a motive but previously said that there was no evidence to suggest the attacks were terror-related.

Nine people with life-threatening injuries tells me that were it not for good fortune and divine grace, this could well have been a story about nine people being killed in a mass stabbing in the UK.

It’s just a chance that literally no one was in a position to defend themselves or others while Williams allegedly conducted his gruesome attempt at infamy.

Yes, I get it, guns are very difficult to get in England. However, again, that doesn’t stop someone who wants to kill as many people as possible. Luck is the only thing that stopped him here, and with one still fighting for survival, all we can do is pray that the good Lord grants them a little bit more so they can recover as well.

Again, though, this couldn’t be stopped by an armed citizen because that’s not an option in the once Great Britain. 

“But if guns were available, this would have been so much worse!” someone will likely bellow, but I’d point them to their beloved Gun Violence Archive for a moment. How many of those so-called mass shootings have no fatalities? A whole pile of them, with others only having one fatality. A bunch of them also have far fewer injuries than this incident, so you might want to hold your horses before you start trying to throw around the whole “it would have been worse” card.

What happened was absolutely terrible, but it also shows the problem of a disarmed society because no one could stop it. Even pepper spray wasn’t an option.
