None of us is happy about where things went with the Hearing Protection Act or the SHORT Act. We wanted complete deregulation and what we got was far less than that. It’s a step forward, but not much of one.

I get that a lot of people are upset.

Yet the truth is that a lot of lawmakers were uncomfortable with what was on the table. Suppressors don’t do what a lot of people think they do, but the voters don’t really know that. Short-barreled rifles and shotguns were only included in the NFA because handguns were originally included and lawmakers wanted to prevent people getting around the handgun ban with them. When handguns were removed, people forgot about SBRs until after the law passed. Now, people are terrified that they’re somehow super useful in crime and are only prevented because of the law.

It’s stupid, but it created a problem.

Still, groups like Gun Owners of America were instrumental in getting the legislation even this close to passing.

But the Dorr Brothers group, American Firearms Association, seems to think otherwise.

GOA, NRA, FPC, and 2AF can never say they’re “NO COMPROMISE” after the stunt they pulled last week in DC, screwing gun owners.

The time to fight in Congress is NOW. We won a huge election in November. There must be big wins in DC.

Now, that’s a bold take, and one I didn’t see because I don’t actually follow the Dorr Brothers. I’d rather spend my time following people who actually fight for gun rights instead of just padding their bank accounts.

But my friend Jared Yanis of Guns & Gadgets got wind of it and addressed the claim.

Now, I’ve talked about these guys before. A few times, actually. This is a group of people who seem to have set up a network that collects tons of donations, which then go to their private, for-profit company, and still manage to almost nothing for gun rights. They create a lot of attacks and maybe schedule some protests, but an awful lot of lawmakers have never even heard of their organization. Others claim they’ve never had any real contact with representatives of the group to discuss legislation.

Yet they’re accusing all the other gun rights groups of selling out gun owners when they’ve done nothing?

I get why Jared wanted to talk about it.

But the kicker is that then these bozos attacked Jared.

AFA exposed GOA, NRA, FPC, and 2AF for screwing gun owners during the NFA / BBB fight in Congress.

Around the 13-minute mark, they claim the GOA paid guntubers to make attack videos, then talk about Jared getting “wrapped up” in this. The implication is clear, and it’s insane.

For the record, Jared denies taking a dime from the gun rights groups, though he says he’s donated plenty.

This is just my opinion, but the Dorr Brothers are the biggest grifters in the Second Amendment space, so their trying to accuse others of grifting is downright hilarious. They apparently plan to keep it up at some point today, though I don’t actually give a damn what they have to say.

The fact that they’re attacking pro-gun groups who actually get things done while presenting themselves as somehow effective despite never getting a single piece of legislation passed, having no lobbying effort or legal strategy, and still claiming their statewide groups are “the most powerful” whatever in at least some of those states is absolutely idiotic.

And people keep donating to them because they say what those people want to hear, not what those people actually want to see done. That’s all it takes, and that’s just sad.
