The Hearing Protection Act made it into the One Big Beautiful Bill. I have my problems with that bit of legislation overall–the OBBB, not the HPA–but I’m keeping them to myself because I want the Hearing Protection Act that badly.

Much of how that happened was the work of Gun Owners of America, who kept the pressure up on lawmakers, but they didn’t do it alone. You, the gun rights advocates, did it, too.

The constant calls and emails, telling lawmakers what you wanted, made it happen. That’s a powerful win, and we needed it.

But the fight is far from over, and GOA is asking advocates to keep the pressure up.

Your God-given right to keep and bear arms is not a “privilege” – and when Congress finally does one thing right, it’s not some grand favor to gun owners. It’s exactly what the Constitution requires that they do!

That’s why GOA is launching another grassroots advocacy campaign to further gut the NFA by forcing the Senate to add the SHORT Act to the reconciliation bill.

The SHORT Act – Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today – would remove short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), and Any Other Weapons (AOWs) from the NFA.

…

But if the SHORT Act gets added to President Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” there would be no NFA effectively left to weaponize against gun owners.

GOA’s Erich Pratt, who wrote the above, noted that the pistol brace ban was intended to force millions onto the NFA registry and that a future anti-gun president would likely try the same or something similar.

Gutting the NFA like this would mean that they can’t.

Now, that last sentence needs some clarification. There would still be an NFA, unfortunately. It just wouldn’t be something that could be expanded with an executive order anymore. Machine guns would still be on the registry, but considering the Supreme Court has already ruled that bump stocks can’t be ruled as machine guns by declaration from the executive branch, it means that almost nothing can just be added with a stroke of the pen. It would require Congress to act, and we can win that fight.

But we need to win this fight here and now. We need to get the SHORT Act into the OBBB in order to do that. With short-barreled rifles and suppressors removed from the NFA, we depower future anti-gun administrations significantly.

Which is where you all come in.

Call your senators. Call them today, tomorrow, and every day after that until this is included. Email them. Pester them (politely, of course). Bug them until it’s in there and remind them you’ll remember their support come election time. They like that sort of thing.

Yes, even if your senator is already on board, it’s still worthwhile to let them know this is important to you.

Even if your senators, like mine, aren’t remotely interested in supporting the Second Amendment, keep telling them where you stand. Make sure they know what you want, because while they might not support it, they might be afraid to risk their job by trying to actively oppose it.

We can do this.

Let’s get it done.
