GOA Launches First Digital Magazine

For years, Gun Owners of America has put out the State of the Second Podcast. They’ve interviewed a ton of people, and a lot of people tune into each episode of the latest and greatest in the Second Amendment world.

But there are a lot of people who don’t listen to podcasts all that much. Unfortunately, I tend to be one of them. I listen to some from time to time, but I just don’t have a lot of opportunity to listen unless I just sit down to listen, at which point I start looking for something to distract me visually, and then I get completely distracted and miss everything.

I, like a lot of my Gen X brethren, read a whole lot faster than we can watch or listen to stuff.

So I’m thrilled to see that GOA is taking the State of the Second and launching their first digital magazine.

From a press release:

Gun Owners of America (GOA) is proud to announce the launch of State of the Second, the organization’s first-ever digital magazine and a new exclusive benefit for GOA members.

Building upon the success of GOA’s State of the Second Podcast, the new digital publication expands the State of the Second brand into long-form storytelling and analysis, tailored specifically for gun owners.

State of the Second will provide GOA members with in-depth, original content that blends advocacy, industry insight, and exclusive access. The magazine will feature expert gun reviews from trusted voices within the firearms industry, behind-the-scenes factory tours that take members inside some of the top brands in the firearms space, and substantive coverage of Second Amendment advocacy efforts. Through reporting on legislation, court battles, grassroots activism, and the broader cultural fight for the right to keep and bear arms, State of the Second will equip members with both the knowledge and perspective needed to defend their freedoms.

Kailey Nieman, Co-Host of the State of the Second for Gun Owners of America, added:

“As our podcast audience has grown, so has the demand for deeper analysis and more immersive content. State of the Second allows us to build on that foundation by delivering a premium publication that informs, educates, and energizes our members—both on the policy front and within the firearms community.”

Erich Pratt, Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America, issued the following statement:

“GOA is committed to serving our members, and we are thrilled to be adding yet another benefit for them. It’s the grassroots that propel GOA and its mission to protect, defend and restore the Second Amendment. This magazine helps us share the stories that the mainstream media doesn’t want to tell and the real impact that only GOA members are making.”

As a digital-first publication, State of the Second reflects GOA’s continued investment in modern communications and member engagement, ensuring supporters have access to timely, relevant, and impactful content in an evolving media landscape.

The magazine will be published digitally and made available exclusively to GOA members as part of their membership benefits, reinforcing GOA’s mission to educate, mobilize, and lead the grassroots fight for constitutional freedom.

This isn’t unlike American Rifleman from the NRA, in that it’s designed for members, and I’m glad to see it.

In the last handful of years, Gun Owners of America has been expanding their advocacy in a lot of different ways. They kicked off GOALs, which brings in Second Amendment advocates from across the nation, and now this.

While the NRA has long been the 800-pound gorilla in the gun rights world, they’re not quite what they used to be. A lot of people took issue with them, particularly their willingness to compromise on certain issues. I think I understand the thinking in those cases, and they might not have been wrong, even if I disagreed with it, but a lot of Second Amendment supporters were less understanding.

As a result, it seems GOA has stepped up and provided these advocates with what they want from an organization, and that’s benefited the GOA. However, since Erich Pratt isn’t exactly interested in yachts or whatnot, they’ve put those new resources into benefitting the gun rights community.

And since the media is, in fact, uninterested in telling a balanced view of gun rights in this country, we need more like this. Cam, John, Kerry, Ranjit, Ryan, myself, and the rest of us here at Bearing Arms do our best, but we can only do so much. We miss stuff, just like any publication.

I don’t see State of the Second as a competitor. I see it as yet another partner in telling the truth about the right to keep and bear arms.

Editor’s Note: The mainstream media continues to lie about gun owners and the Second Amendment.
