Good Bye White House Gun Control Office: We’ll Never Miss Ya!

Good Bye White House Gun Control Office: We’ll Never Miss Ya!

The White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention was something anti-gunners have been clamoring for for years. They wanted the White House to push gun control, and President Joe Biden obliged them.

To say the move was controversial is to put it mildly, but anti-gunners were thrilled. They honestly believed once it was created with a stroke of a pen, it would be eternal.

Unfortunately for them, Donald Trump is now president, and he’s been on a tear fulfilling promises and making those who voted for him pretty happy.

That includes gun rights supporters.

The first federal taxpayer-funded gun control Tsar’s office seems short-lived as its website went dark the day following a change of management at the White House.

…

As of Tuesday, the OGVP’s website is gone as are the announcement of its formation and its first annual report delivered last September.

The OGVP had been under Congressional scrutiny for apparent contact and coordination between the office and prominent national anti-gun groups who are pursuing a series of controversial lawsuits against Glock.

Seriously, click the link. It’s a thing of beauty.

There’s no statement that the office was shut down or anything, just a 404 page. It’s as if the OGVP never existed.

But it did, and some people are very upset that it is likely gone now.

BREAKING: We’re only two days into the Trump-Vance Administration, and they have seemingly disbanded the first-ever White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention already—making it clear this Administration works for the gun lobby, not the American people. pic.twitter.com/TH4RmOUF7T

In just its first year, @WHOGVP46:

✔️ Expanded and enhanced background checks
✔️ Enforced gun trafficking and straw purchasing laws
✔️ Kept guns out of the hands of domestic abusers
✔️ Invested in youth mental health

Shame on Trump & Vance for shutting down such critical work.

Except that the office did absolutely none of those things. Those were done by Congress. It took congressional action, not a jobs program for gun control advocates.

But let’s look at the first post for a moment. Everytown claims that Trump is working for the gun lobby, not the American people.

I need to correct them on this. The gun lobby, you see, IS the American people. It’s not all of them, but the gun industry, while large enough, isn’t exactly the same as, say, the defense industry as a whole. It’s a smaller subset that makes a fair bit of money, but not enough to dictate governmental policy simply because of how deep its pockets are.

No, the American people who value their right to keep and bear arms are the real power of the so-called gun lobby.

We’re voters. We’re people who donate to pro-gun candidates in dribs and drabs that turn into massive amounts of cash in campaign war chests. We’re people who support gun rights groups and gun rights candidates, and those candidates tend to remember that fact when they get into office.

The gun lobby that Everytown laments represents the other side of the debate that they like to pretend doesn’t really exist.

What they’re really upset with is that now they have to do their own gruntwork at their own expense and can’t count on the American taxpayer footing the bill for pushing infringements on our Second Amendment rights.

Well, get used to disappointment, then. Otherwise, it’s likely to be a long four years for you.
