Illegal Immigrants Found Armed in South Carolina

Illegal immigration is an issue that’s in the news a whole lot lately. For some, it’s a distraction. For others, it’s the most important issue out there. Then there are all the rest of the people who are somewhere in the middle.

But it’s an issue, just the same.

And in the world of guns, gun rights, and gun control, there is a related debate about whether illegal immigrants have gun rights inside the United States. The general consensus seems to be that no, they don’t. I argue that they have them…in their home countries, even if those countries don’t respect those rights.

Regardless, it’s illegal for them to have them here.

Kind of like these two in South Carolina.

Luis Manuel Chavez Severiano (48) and Maria Teresa Fajardo Noriega (46) have both been charged with Forgery, per a press release from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

Severiano has also been charged with Possession of a Firearm by an Unlawful Alien, according to SLED. Both Severiano and Noriega reside in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

Arrest reports for Severiano state that “the back of the Permanent Resident Card expiring 11/2020 was removed to replace the older photograph” and “a passport sized individual photo” was also obtained which was “consistent with creating forged identifications.”

Additionally, a “black and white in color .45 Taurus pistol model PT 1911″ was reportedly seized.

In other words, Severiano overstayed his welcome (at best), and rather than having renewed his status, he decided to create a forged green card.

Now, there’s no word as to when he purchased the firearm.

He might have been able to buy it lawfully with a green card, but once that expired and he remained in the United States, he was in violation of American gun laws. Then again, as I alluded to above, nothing says the green card belonged to either of them, so it’s possible that they’d never been here legally in the first place, which means just getting that gun was a violation of American gun control laws.

Of course, that wasn’t the only law he was in violation of.

Obviously.

Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t help but think that between the illegal gun possession and the forgery attempt, these two might just have been up to a whole lot more than law enforcement hasn’t found out about just yet.

It’s also possible that up until 11/2020, at least one of them was a lawful resident of the United States who did nothing wrong.

It’s also possible that they’re career criminals who were determined to stay in the United States in order to engage in other criminal activities here in the Land of Opportunity.

Clearly, this plan didn’t work out for them either way.

But how many others are running around with fake green cards and firearms, among other things?

Seriously, some would look at this and argue that the issue is we don’t have enough gun control, but I’d point out that there’s reason to believe they didn’t buy them lawfully in the first place.

Couple that with the millions of other criminals who get guns unlawfully and it’s obvious that the issue isn’t a lack of gun control laws.

Then again, some people wouldn’t see the obvious if it jumped on their face, introduced itself, then twerked to Oh Fortuna.
