Kostas Moros Named SAF Director of Legal Research and Education

Regular readers here may recognize the name Kostas Moros. The Second Amendment attorney is an active user of X, and he posts some very good things there on a regular basis; things I often turn into stories here at Bearing Arms.

Hey, the guy knows more than me. I’d be an idiot not to listen to him, right?

Well, it seems that his knowledge isn’t just recognized by yours truly. It seems the Second Amendment Foundation also recognized it and named him to handle a pretty important position within the organization, according to a press release sent earlier this week:

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is pleased to announce the hiring of Kostas Moros as Director of Legal Research and Education.

Moros brings 10 years of experience to the SAF team with six years directly litigating Second Amendment cases in California. His accomplishments include helping preliminarily enjoin several aspects of California’s overbearing “gun free zones” law that the State passed to undermine the right to carry, and he was instrumental in making non-resident carry a reality for the first time in California’s modern history. Moros is a member of several federal circuit courts, as well as the Supreme Court Bar, and has authored numerous amicus briefs, a law review article on why bans on common rifles are historically baseless and dozens of articles on gun policy. He maintains a very active presence on X under the handle @MorosKostas.

“Along with other members of the SAF team, I have worked with Kostas for several years and have seen firsthand the quality of his work and the passion he has for protecting our right to keep and bear arms,” said SAF Executive Director Adam Kraut. “We’re excited to have Kostas join the team as a full-time employee and look forward to watching SAF’s research and education programs grow under his leadership.”

In his new role, Moros is responsible for producing original research and policy positions for publication, coordinating and preparing amicus briefs and handling or assisting litigation as needed. He will also help identify educational opportunities for the organization and see those through to completion.

“I’ve worked in the Second Amendment litigation space in California for several years, but I am excited about the opportunity this new role presents,” Moros said. “While California remains a hotbed of gun control rhetoric and senseless laws, this new position will allow me use my past experience to help SAF ensure our constitutional rights are defended, secured and restored across the nation.”

The guy legitimately knows his stuff, and he’s also well-versed in the history of the Second Amendment, which is critical in the post-Bruen legal world. I think that with him on board, the Second Amendment Foundation is going to be very well equipped to deal with legal challenges to gun control laws throughout the nation.

I mean, the man has a lengthy thread on X where he shows all the places prior to the 20th Century where legal minds made it clear that the Second Amendment was an individual right, thus shattering the long-held narrative that the idea that “the right of the people” meant state militias or something equally asinine.

So he’s really been doing the educational part of things for quite some time.

Moros is going to make the SAF a more potent machine in fighting for our right to keep and bear arms, and that’s a good thing. We need that. We need that battle to be won because the alternative is something none of us should be willing to accept. Winning in the courts and potentially even in the public mind through education is essential to protecting our rights.

After all, it’s a lot harder to push gun control when not even the voters want it.

Editor’s Note: Defending the Second Amendment is a team effort, and Bearing Arms is proud to do its part to stand up for our fundamental right to keep and bear arms.
