Meet Some of the Democrats in Minnesota Opposed to Walz’s Semi-Auto Ban

Earlier today we reported on a supposed moderate Democrat in the Minnesota Senate who’s come out in favor of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s proposed ban on “assault weapons” and “large capacity” magazines. There are at least two other DFL senators who are publicly noncommittal about the governor’s gun ban plan, and divided control of the Minnesota House will hopefully leave Walz frustrated next year.

Support for gun control is basically a prerequisite for Democrat politicians these days, though as recently as 2010 about a quarter of Democrats in Congress were “A” rated by the National Rifle Association. A couple of young Democrats in Minnesota are hoping to change that, but in the meantime they’re showing their own support for the Second Amendment (and capitalism) by producing 3D-manufactured speedloaders for AR rifles… and by speaking out against Walz’s anti-gun machinations.

Sid Allen did not set out on his 3D printing journey to manufacture firearm accessories in his garage.

Last year, he was printing custom Dungeons and Dragons figurines. For a decade before that, Allen, 28, was printing accessible attachments for his increasingly paralyzed father, who has since died from brain cancer: a gyroscopic mount so his cup wouldn’t fall over; stove knobs you don’t need to press to turn on; key pads for calling — “dozens, even hundreds, of things earlier on when he still had mobility.”

Allen, wearing his signature wizard hat, held his product: an AR-15 magazine speedloader, used to make reloading a firearm faster and easier, which his company, MangaBerry West, sells for $28 apiece. The speedloader is designed partly with accessibility in mind, he said, and can be used with limited hand mobility.

Allen and the other St. Cloud State University students who help with the business identify as leftists. Allen and Tarik Alduri, 23, said so discreetly at a recent St. Cloud gun show for fear of hurting business. But at home, Allen and Alduri, along with Riley Dahlberg, 20, freely discussed food stamps and taxes, President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and their gripes with the Democratic Party. Allen is the president, and Dahlberg vice president, of the St. Cloud College Democrats even though they are left of the party establishment on most issues.

… Still, they decried Democrats’ move to make gun control a purity test, shutting the door on potential Democrats by turning “small gaps into massive issues,” especially given Republicans’ willingness to accept a wider range of views on many issues, Alduri said. “I think it’s sad that we have gotten to this point where the left thinks that they’re not allowed to own guns in order to stay aligned Democratic Party.”

Well, that’s what happens when a billionaire like Michael Bloomberg decides to lavish money and support on anti-gun candidates. It’s not Bloomberg alone, of course. Support for gun control has historically been much higher on the left than the right, but even fifteen years ago it wasn’t uncommon to see Blue Dog Democrats voting against any gun control bill that emerged in Congress. Now the closest thing to a Blue Dog in the House is Rep. Jared Golden from Maine, who had a “B” rating from the NRA in 2022. Even then, Golden was opposed by the NRA in 2024, and the Democrat recently announced he won’t run in 2026.

Things aren’t much better at the state level, and certainly not in Minnesota, where the number of Democrat lawmakers who are even modestly supportive of the right to keep and bear arms can be counted on one hand.

So long as pro-2A lefties like Alduri, Dahlberg, and Allen keep voting for anti-gun Democrats, the party doesn’t need to pay any attention to them. If the trio really want to be change agents, they should not only be lobbying Democrats at the state capitol to reject a ban on commonly owned firearms, but start looking for fellow lefties that support the Second Amendment who are willing to challenge Democrat incumbents in primaries next year… including, perhaps, someone who’ll take on Tim Walz for the gubernatorial nomination.

Editor’s Note: After more than 40 days of screwing Americans, a few Dems have finally caved. The Schumer Shutdown was never about principle—just inflicting pain for political points.
