In order to have a weekend off, Cam and I typically write on Friday and just schedule stories for Saturday and Sunday. Not much happens on those days, so there’s no point in hovering over the keyboard waiting. Plus, frankly, we want to spend time with our families. Life is short and all that.
But man, was it a weekend, and not in a good way.
There was a lot that happened, which we’ll try to get to as much as we can today. And the one that first caught my eye was this story out of North Carolina, where there was a mass shooting, and the gunman apparently thought he was in an episode of Miami Vice.
Police in North Carolina have charged a suspect in connection with a mass shooting that killed three and left at least eight others injured at a riverside bar near the Atlantic Ocean coast on Sept. 27.
The shooting at American Fish Company in Southport occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time when a gunman traveling in a boat along the Cape Fear River pulled up to the restaurant’s dock and fired into a crowd. The boat then fled up the Intracoastal Waterway toward Oak Island.
At about 10 p.m., the U.S. Coast Guard detained a person matching the description of the shooter, who was taking their boat out of the water at a public boat ramp about 12 miles from the restaurant where the shooting occurred, according to a news release from the Southport Police Department.
…
Police believe the location was targeted and the shooting was “highly premeditated,” Coring said at a Sept. 28 news conference. The suspect is believed to have acted alone. Coring also confirmed the suspect used an assault rifle. Oak Island Police Chief Charlie Morris said officials executed a search warrant on the suspect’s boat and home and recovered firearms.
The suspect was caught, a 40-year-old man, as he was pulling his boat out of the water.
It seems that the alleged killer is a Marine Corps veteran who served as a sniper until he was shot in, among other places, the head. I’m going to have to wonder if that played a factor.
Of course, this is the same guy who, in his Marine uniform, escorted Kellie Pickler to the Country Music Awards in 2012, which I’m sure will come up later for some inane reason.
Honestly, right now, there’s not that we know about this incident. We don’t know enough specifics to really get into what just happened. We don’t know the range, the reasons, or anything else.
What we do know, though, is that three people are dead, eight are injured, and a lot of people are hurting right now, all because this turdnugget forgot that this isn’t what Marines are supposed to do. They’re supposed to protect the American people, just like the rest of us veterans. We swore to support and defend the Constitution, an oath without an expiration date, and part of that is to support and defend the people covered by it.
He forgot that, apparently, and decided instead to lay waste to people at a restaurant.
There’s no justification for that.
Editor’s Note: On top of the horrific bloodshed, attacks like this will only rile up the radical left, who will stop at nothing to enact their radical gun control agenda and strip us of our Second Amendment rights.
