I’ve been pretty hard on Republicans…well, today, really, but also for the last little bit. I’m tired of them screwing us over because they figure we have nowhere else to go.

But I need to be fair, too. It’s not all terrible.

After all, while Republicans aren’t exactly doing what we voted for them to do, they’re also not passing a bunch of gun control, either.

And we’ve got President Donald Trump, who has already positioned himself to be the most pro-gun in at least recent history, if not since the founding era.

Over at America’s 1st Freedom, writer Suzanne Edwards talks a bit about it.

While the Biden administration spent four years vilifying lawful gun owners and tying the hands of law enforcement, President Donald Trump (R) has unapologetically flipped the script—treating the bad guys like bad guys and the good guys like the responsible patriots they are.

“For too long, the Second Amendment, which establishes the fundamental individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms, has been treated as a second-class right,” said Attorney General Pam Bondi when she announced the establishment of the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force. “No more.”

Here’s how Trump’s administration has already changed the game—and what’s coming next.

  1. Gun Stores Finally Get a Break

Under Biden’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), law-abiding Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) were hit with a barrage of audits, license revocations and targeted enforcement actions—often over simple clerical errors.

Trump has made clear that under his administration, this overreach ends. His administration has already pledged to rein in the ATF and restore fair treatment for FFLs, ensuring they are no longer treated as criminals for paperwork mistakes. A proposed reform bill aims to create a transparent appeals process and eliminate the “zero-tolerance” revocation policy that plagued small business owners during the Biden era.

Go and check out the rest.

For me, the big one mentioned was an end to the “ghost gun” and pistol brace madness, which is indeed welcomed.

One thing mentioned was national reciprocity being back on the table, which is very true. Trump is supportive of it, and that suggests there’s a better chance of it happening. The problem is that unless it’s somehow in a budget bill, there’s not much chance of that happening, at least as I see it. Yes, it’s back on the table, but anything can be on the table. What matters is if someone is willing to take a bite.

Yet the truth is that there’s so much more than the five things brought up in that piece’s title.

Attorney General Pam Bondi was a troubling pick to head up the Department of Justice, and while there are issues with how she’s handled herself in the first handful of months–she does seem a bit more interested in press than results–she’s also making a lot of the right moves with regard to the Second Amendment, including establishing the Second Amendment Enforcement Task Force.

So yes, things aren’t as bleak as they seem to me sometimes. I’m still upset with House Republicans, but at least the White House is doing some good for the American gun owner.
