Oh, Now They Accept Tyranny Can Happen Here

For decades, we’ve warned the anti-gunners that they don’t know what they’re asking for. We’ve told them that the Second Amendment is a defense against tyranny, and that to throttle it in any way would throttle our ability to fight back against tyrants.

And we were told that we were nuts for thinking that was remotely possible. How could it? For people who scoff at American Exceptionalism, they experience their own brand of it, where we will get everything right that has failed elsewhere, and that it’s impossible for us to slide into authoritarianism.

Which is funny considering how often they compare people they disagree with to Hitler.

Still, that was the take.

Well, it seems that now, the American left, which has long embraced gun control, is starting to figure that tyranny actually can happen here, but only when it’s what they view as tyranny.

Remember all those conservatives, right-wingers, and MAGA freaks who have screeched for years, warning about an allegedly tyrannical [completely fictitious, paranoid bullshit at the time] federal government filled with federal “jack-booted thugs”?  
 

Yeah, the nonexistent “tyrannical government” that former NRA VP, and radically extreme gun fetishist, Wayne LaPierre, lashed out about in a fundraising letter in 1995 in whining about federal gun control measures:
 

“…the semiauto-auto ban gives jack-booted government thugs more power to take away our constitutional rights, break in our doors, seize our guns, destroy our property, and even injure or kill us.”

Well…..  funny thing about that.  

As we all know, most of those paranoid , radically extreme assholes are the same people defending and cheering on lawless, rogue, rampaging ICE and enthusiastically supporting the raging ICE murderer who bravely chose to  shoot an unarmed mother in the face multiple times from points blank range.  

Because sure.   Nothing says lawful immigration enforcement quite like SHOOTING A 37-year old unarmed mom in the face three times. 

I’m just going to point out that a motor vehicle is a weapon in and of itself. You can argue that it was a bad shoot all you want, but to say she was unarmed simply because she didn’t have a gun or knife is beyond ridiculous.

Obviously, I don’t agree with this take. ICE is enforcing longstanding laws that no one had an issue with when Obama was deporting people, or Clinton. It’s only after Biden let legions of illegals into the country that we’re seeing this response, and while I don’t like the looks of it at all, the truth is that these are still people enforcing federal laws that no one had an issue with, really, until 2025.

That ain’t tyranny.

Still, it’s funny that for all the bloviating and mockery, now they think it’s a legitimate concern.

For the record, this is just one of many similar takes where those who have long opposed gun rights suddenly think enforcing immigration law is tyranny, so now the Second Amendment matters.

We’ve warned them for ages that tyranny can rise, but they only saw it as any authoritarianism that came about would be their preferred flavor of it, thus not an issue. Now, they see the world falling down around them and suddenly think that maybe we had a point all along, ironically at a time when we don’t think they have a point about what is and isn’t an affront to the Constitution.

On one hand, this is hilarious, especially when I could point out how they said to take on the United States government, you’d need fighter jets and nukes, which they don’t have, so they can quit their griping.

On the other hand, this rhetoric is popping up enough that I expect we’re going to see a lot more shootings involving ICE. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it become so common that National Guard units will be deployed to provide military cover for their operations.

And that may spill onto other law enforcement officers.

That’s not funny at all.

Especially since their view of tyranny doesn’t involve the removal of rights from American citizens, just the removal of non-American citizens who don’t have permission to be here. We see where their priorities are.
