I’m a big fan of science fiction and fantasy books. I’ve read a ton of them, and I’ll keep reading a ton of them. Why? Because they’re fun. At least, they’re fun when you find an author who doesn’t try to preach their leftist politics to you by pretending they’re telling you a story.
Message fiction sucks.
One of my favorite authors is Larry Correia, creator of the Monster Hunter International series, among others. Not only is Larry not a raging leftist, he’s an actual gun guy. Besides being a really good shooter, he once owned a gun store, among many other pro-gun feats. He’s one of us on a deep, deep level.
Hell, his one non-fiction book was a defense of the Second Amendment.
Now, he’s got a new project in the works. It’s called “American Paladin,” and it’s a graphic novel with Ark Press that’s described as something of a Have Gun Will Travel mixed with Monster Hunter International with a taste of Reacher thrown into the mix.
And the Kickstarter is up to over $200,000.
However, much of that was upon launch. Day one netted something like over $150,000.
The next day, Charlie Kirk was killed, and as Larry puts it, America got punched in the face, which slowed things down.
This is going to be an honest peek behind the curtain.
We are coming up on one week for the American Paladin kickstarter. Day one was incredible and we were on track to break a million. Day 2, all of America got punched in the face. That sucks on a multitude of levels which I’ve…

Now, the truth is that the Kickstarter is fully funded.
However, Kickstarters that blow up get attention, and if we want to see pro-gun media make it in the world, it’s important that we back it when we have the chance. We need to celebrate it and support it so that, at least hypothetically, some in the entertainment industry will get the idea that more than 100 million gun owners might just like entertainment that doesn’t make them look stupid, evil, or something just as bad.
Larry has enjoyed the fruits of creating not just stories that have an underlying pro-gun sensibility, but also stories that are just downright entertaining. He’s gotten a lot of support in the past, and the vast majority of us who have offered that support will read literally anything the man puts on paper. Yes, I’m in that camp.
If you’re not much of a reader, though, you might be shrugging and wondering why you should bother.
I’ll tell you that it’s because if you watch TV, streaming, or movies, much of that content is created by people who don’t like you and think you, as a pro-gun person, don’t matter to their bottom line.
Backing this is one way to start sending the message that we do. That you matter.
If we want to defend our gun rights, one of the first things we have to do is change the narrative on a deep level for those millions of Americans who only know what the media shows them. As the late Andrew Breitbart used to say, politics is downstream from culture. This is part of that culture.
I’m backing this Kickstarter because I want the story to come to life, and some of the extra perks of signing on look pretty cool. If they don’t do you, still consider backing it.
Larry’s a good man. He’s a great storyteller.
And he’s one of us.
