So This Is Who the Minnesota Senate Let Speak While Silencing 2A Groups? Seriously?

As Cam wrote about on Friday, Minnesota lawmakers wouldn’t let pro-Second Amendment groups speak regarding proposed legislation. While they did let pro-gun individuals speak, the exclusion of pro-gun groups meant that they likely kept some of the most knowledgeable people on the bench when they were needed most.

Of course, since many of those making decisions did it because they were likely to be effective, it doesn’t make anyone feel any better about it.

Especially when this guy was permitted to speak.

Yes, he actually said, “In fact, the AR-15 is more powerful than the standard military issue M4 Assault Rifle.”

Yes, it’s the clearest evidence of mental disability I think I’ve seen in a long while, and in this line of work, that’s really saying something.

Let’s keep in mind that the reason people say they want to ban the weapon is because it is, in their words, essentially the same as the M4. It’s not, of course, as the AR-15 isn’t select fire, but the anti-gun bunch claims that difference is irrelevant because in all other ways, it’s the same weapon. I’d argue that it’s a very important difference, especially when we’re talking about regulation, but whatever.

So now we have Super Fudd here walking in and telling you that the gun that can’t shoot full-auto, but is chambered in the exact same round, fires at the same semi-auto rate, and holds the exact same magazines, is really more powerful than what the military has.

The barrel length is the only other difference there is, and while a longer barrel in a standard over-the-counter AR-15 might increase round velocity a bit, it’s not exactly an earth-shattering difference.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is who they allowed to speak instead of pro-gun organizations that would actually know what the hell they’re talking about. This is the opinion they wanted to hear, not the organizations that actually understand firearms and can talk about them intelligently.

Of course, I’ll also point out that there are a lot of hunting rifles out there that are a lot more powerful than the AR-15 or M4, including the venerable M-1 Garand. That’s a gun that would likely survive almost any assault weapon ban that includes any criteria including detachable magazines or potential round capacity, and yet, if I had to choose, I’m going to give .30-06 a pass.

Honestly, watching this clip has me wondering just how many of my Marine friends are facepalming over this dude’s comments while wearing a hat declaring himself as a Marine Corps veteran.

We joke about Marines not being that bright, but this is a whole other level of stupid. This isn’t eating crayons, as we often joke. This is something very different, and I can only hope it was stupidity that drove those comments, versus something more sinister.

Either way, the words he said are stupid; they shouldn’t be taken seriously, but I promise you that in the coming weeks and years, someone will parrot them as if they actually know what they’re talking about.

That’ll be a fun ride, to say the least.
