Multiple surveys have been conducted to find out why most gun owners have firearms in the first place. Whereas it might have been for hunting 50 years ago, these days it’s about self-defense.

The most popular firearms being sold illustrates this. Semi-automatic handguns are plentiful and while Glock pretty much dominates the market, there are plenty of other contenders selling briskly enough. With rifles, AR-15-type guns are far more dominant.

In other words, guns are bought to defend life in most instances.

However, some people want to keep lawful adults under the age of 21 from owning any firearm at all. Their arguments range in absurdity, but it all boils down to this idea that despite being able to make just about every other decision for themselves, they can’t be trusted with guns.

And yet, in a lot of cases, they need them just the same as you or I might. And they have.

On January 16, 2025, at 9:30 p.m., a young man was driving with his pregnant significant other. The incident started on I-610 in northeast Houston. From khou.com:

Police said the 20-year-old driver again tried to get away from the aggressive driver, but the truck drove into the oncoming traffic lanes to swerve in front of him and block them. That’s when HPD said the truck driver got out and ran toward the car with his hands near his pocket. Police said the 20-year-old driver feared for his life and opened fire through the front windshield and through the side of the car, hitting the aggressive driver in the torso, arm and leg.

According to HPD, the 20-year-old driver used to be a security guard and had handcuffs on him. He detained the other driver and contacted police. HPD said he was fully cooperating with investigators.

The alleged aggressive driver was taken to an area hospital where he is expected to survive.

“He’s our victim, but again, more of a suspect, really,” said Lt. R. Willkens with HPD. “Kind of a self-defense thing.”

No charges are expected for the 20-year-old.

On January 15, 2025, at 2:40 p.m. at 7050 Inwood Park Drive in Houston, a 19-year-old defended himself and his friends. From CityofHouston.news:

Go to Ammoland to read the rest. It’s worth the time.

The point is that over a two-day span, two people under the age of 21 used a firearm to defend themselves in Houston alone.

This doesn’t even get into the plethora of other examples you can find during the course of a given year throughout the nation.

However, we have people tripping over themselves trying to claim that both of these folks, as well as millions of others, can’t be trusted with firearms simply because of their age. They want to keep them from being able to buy guns.

What they’d rather see are these two young men murdered by another. That would give them more murder numbers to use to push gun control, all while ignoring the fact that these two wouldn’t have died if the gun grabbers hadn’t disarmed them in the first place.

They’re either lawful citizens or they’re not.

Stop trying to disarm them.
