I’ve talked before about the PR nightmare for Sig Sauer that is the P320. They’ve tried what I suppose was supposed to be damage control, but that kind of blew up in their faces.

But it’s clear that the P320 has problems and that Sig has no interest in actually admitting them, much less addressing them.

And now for some real-world ramifications of that.

Now, of course, this is just one school…except that I’m pretty sure it’s not.

For one thing, it seems law enforcement training centers have started banning the firearms at their schools.

Look, it was one thing when we were just looking at guns that would fire if dropped, so as to land a certain way, but we’ve seen numerous instances of P320s going off in people’s holsters. The holster makes all seem to be different. The only constant is the P320.

Yet rather than fix the issue, Sig opted to just lash out and claim its critics were all anti-gun zealots looking to destroy the Second Amendment. This was just a way to try and shift criticism and silence those who are less than thrilled with a product that sure looks dangerous. We’ve got video of it happening, for crying out loud, so it’s not something anyone is just making up, and no one is criticizing literally any other Sig Sauer product.

From all outward appearances, they just made a bad gun, and now they’re starting to see problems that could have been addressed a while back.

Instead, they ignored it until they couldn’t anymore, then went off half-cocked at the critics (choice of words absolutely intentional here), and now the word is going to be spread even further.

When people can’t take training classes with the gun they purchased, they’re going to be upset. They’re going to be even more upset, though, that there’s a valid reason why these guns aren’t allowed.

And really, the fact that all Sig could offer in its defense is a pathetic attempt at gaslighting

I’ve gotten rumblings that Tactical Defense Institute is far from the only school and/or range that has banned the P320s. This is likely to continue and Sig’s refusal to address the problem is only going to make that worse.

Sig had a fantastic reputation, all things considered, and I considered them one of the best manufacturers out there.

Now, I’d be hard-pressed to consider a Sig for my own defense needs, which is a shame because I actually like the feel of the P320.

I just hope our military’s M18 pistols, which are essentially the same thing, don’t have the same problems. After all, it’s one thing to be shot by the enemy. Being shot by your own side sucks, but you can understand how it happens sometimes. Getting shot by your pistol in its holster is a whole other thing.

The kick in the butt is that you’re not even going to get a Purple Heart for it, unless maybe if it happens in an actual combat scenario. Then, it’s possible no one will even realize what happened,.

But we’ll always suspect.

Sig.

Do better.
