Trump admin mocks ‘Fake News losers’ after CNN is forced to correct fact-check on transgender mice

One of President Donald Trump’s more astounding claims during his address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night ended with egg on the face of “Fake News losers” at CNN when they tried to fact-check him.

“$8 million to promote LGBTQI+ in the African nation of Lesotho, which nobody has ever heard of,” he said during the address. “$60 million for indigenous peoples and Afro-Colombian empowerment in central America, $60 million. $8 million for making mice transgender. This is real!”

CNN reporters initially said the claim was false and said they could not determine where the president came up with the $8 million figure. Eventually, the article was corrected to say the claim “needed context” and deleted the content calling it false.

“An earlier version of this item incorrectly characterized as false Trump’s claim about federal money being spent for ‘making mice transgender.’ The article has been updated with context about the spending, which was for research students on the potential human health impacts of treatments used in gender-affirming care,” the article read.

The two versions were posted to social media by the popular “Libs of TikTok” account.

CNN was mocked and ridiculed by many on over the gaffe, but then the White House pounced on the news outlet.

“The Fake News losers at CNN tried to fact check President Trump saying Biden spent $8 million on ‘making mice transgender,’ but President Trump was right (as usual),” the administration wrote on its official social media account.

“Under the Biden Administration, the National Institutes of Health doled out millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants for institutions across the country to perform transgender experiments on mice,” they added.

The post went on to document various programs that experimented with making mice transgender, including nearly half a million dollars for “A Mouse Model to Test the Effects of Gender-affirming Hormone Therapy on HIV Vaccine-induced Immune Responses,” and $735,000 for “Microbiome mediated effects of gender affirming hormone therapy in mice.”
