President Donald Trump called out New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani’s “very angry” acceptance speech, cautioning that communism has “never worked.”

Trump reacted to the results of the November off-year elections Wednesday on “Special Report with Bret Baier.” Republicans Jack Ciattarelli and Winsome Earle-Sears fell short in closely-watched gubernmatorial races to Democrats Mikie Sherrill and Abigail Spanberger in New Jersey and Virginia respectively. In New York City, “Democratic socialist” Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor.

The president revealed he thought New Jersey would do better, but did not express surprise at the results of the Virginia and New York races.

“I thought New Jersey would do a little bit better than that,” he admitted. “The Cuomo situation, it’s just, he had too many things against him, he had a lot of things against them. Curtis Sliwa tried very hard, but you know, he’s been there before. So, it was a pretty open shot that Mamdani had.”

Trump said that he would like for Mamdani to “do well” because he loves New York, but cautioned the new mayor should be “respectful” of Washington, slamming his alleged embrace of communism.

“Look, for a thousand years, communism has not worked,” Trump said. “It’s just communism, or the concept of communism, has not worked. I tend to doubt it’s going to work this time. … It’s literally never worked.”

The commander-in-chief, who told reporters that pollsters believed the shutdown was a “big factor” in the results, called out “radicalized” Democrats for creating a situation that has “never happened before” in the United States’ longest-ever government shutdown.

“They [Democrats] always extend the deadline in past shutdowns,” he told anchor Bret Baier. “You know, an extension is very easy. It’s done all the time. You extend, sometimes you extend four or five times. I mean they just … become radical, radicalized lunatics actually in a true sense. They should automatically extend, and we will make a deal as soon as they do. As soon as they do, we’ll make a deal.”

Trump said he’d “love” to work with Democrats to fix healthcare and expressed a desire to “move forward.”

“We ought to work on health care together because Obamacare has been a disaster. It’s going to get a big increase, but Obamacare is not great health care and it’s very expensive. I’d love to work with them to fix it.”

Trump also argued that ending the filibuster may be a way to benefit Congress.

“I think that if we got rid of the filibuster, we would approve so many good things, common sense things, wonderful things, that it would be hard to beat us,” he said.

Fox News’ Stephen Sorace contributed to this report.
