Vance’s Visit to Quantico Is Gun Guy’s Dream

A while back, I saw a meme asking why so many presidents play golf. After all, they’re the commander in chief of the most powerful armed forces on the planet. They could shoot literally anything they wanted, have the taxpayers pay for the ammo, and do it as much as they wanted, and no one would tell them no.

It was a fair question to me.

And it seems that Vice President JD Vance saw it.

I don’t know that he did, but during his visit to Marine Corps Base Quantico, he was living the dream.

Oh, and remember when Tim Walz said he could outshoot Vance, then made himself a laughing stock by handling his shotgun like a monkey humping a football?

Yeah, about that…there was another post, since removed for some reason, where Vance was on the range, popping targets, and the Marine who appeared to be the Range Safety Officer called out “headshot” after the vice president fired.

So, call me doubtful that Mr. “I can kick Trump supporters’ asses” could actually outshoot Vance.

Then again, Vance hasn’t exactly touted his prowess with guns, which is also telling in my book.

Politics aside, though, Vance really is kind of living the dream for a lot of us. He can just roll in, burn off a few hundred rounds, then go on with his life without having to worry about ammo costs, cleaning the weapon, or the ATF getting butthurt because the videos are on the internet.

But that’s not to say there’s nothing about these videos that bothers me.

It’s not on Vance, but the truth of the matter is that it’s a problem seeing some of these weapons being fired, knowing full well that they’re out of reach for the average American due to a combination of laws on the books. Sure, some people have gotten such weapons and done so lawfully, but you either need special licensing that isn’t exactly cheap or you have to jump through the ATF’s hurdles on each purchase. Then there’s the fact that transferable machine guns cost as much as a newer car these days, if not a house–it really depends on what you’re getting–and that’s playing a factor, too.

Our Founding Fathers wanted us to be able to match any military force in the world, and by “us,” I don’t mean the United States. I mean the people of the United States.

Again, I’m not throwing shade on Vance. I’d shoot all that stuff, too, and love every minute of it.

But we the people shouldn’t have to beg the state to have such weapons. We were always intended to be able to match any military force, including our own should it become necessary. The fact that we don’t have that is a profound issue.

The fact that so many states and like-minded members of Congress want to take away what arms we have that are a closer match for military firepower is even more of an issue.
