Thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers have been deployed to the San Diego border crossing as part of a large-scale immigration operation aimed at detaining and deporting an estimated 100,000 illegal migrants back to Mexico and Central America.

This effort marks one of the largest immigration enforcement actions in recent history, with additional operations planned for the East Coast in the coming weeks.
In preparation for the operation, the Trump administration has stationed roughly 1,500 active-duty troops along the nearly 2,000-mile U.S.-Mexico border.

Among these troops are 500 Marines from Camp Pendleton in California.
A White House intelligence source described the scene as a “mile-long line of DHS trucks and CBP in front of Camp Pendleton,” ready to begin what officials have called the largest illegal immigration enforcement action in years.
“The West Coast is this week and the East Coast is next week. It is about to get crazy in California,” the source stated.
“They need to fill 100,000 spots,” indicating that mass arrests are a primary directive.
According to the source, the operation aims to deport 100,000 illegal immigrants to countries including Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
As part of the initiative, the Pentagon announced that the military has approved the use of Buckley Space Force Base in Colorado for detaining migrants.
ICE has already begun using the Aurora-based facility as of Monday, according to a statement from the U.S. military’s Northern Command.
Aurora became a focal point of Trump’s immigration policy during his campaign last year.
In October 2024, Trump cited reports of Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua members residing in apartment complexes in the city—an assertion that local officials disputed.
At the time, Trump vowed to launch Operation Aurora to target gang-related crime.

ICE has significantly increased enforcement efforts since Trump assumed office for his second term.
Arrests have surged to 1,000-1,200 per day, a sharp rise from the 311 daily average in fiscal year 2024.
ICE officers have already begun raiding properties in sanctuary cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago, targeting illegal migrants in areas where local authorities refuse to cooperate with federal enforcement.

Trump has also hinted at potentially cutting federal funding to sanctuary cities, stating that these policies encourage illegal immigration and put Americans at risk.

According to Axios, more than 3,500 illegal immigrants have been arrested since Trump’s inauguration last Monday.
A senior Trump administration official shared new deportation and detainment data with DailyMail.com on Friday, revealing multiple arrests of migrants with serious criminal histories.
Among the individuals detained was Cesar Augusto Polanco, 59, a Dominican Republic national arrested in Boston despite a previous conviction for second-degree murder.

The Trump administration has deployed nearly 5,000 Homeland Security and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers nationwide to carry out the sweeping immigration raids.
The recent ICE raids, intensified under Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan, have left many illegal migrants in hiding.

Reports indicate that factories, warehouses, and grocery stores in sanctuary cities are seeing lower worker attendance, as fears of deportation spread.
Trump’s latest executive orders relax restrictions on immigration enforcement at previously protected locations, such as schools, churches, and workplaces.
The administration argues that these changes are necessary to restore order and prevent migrants from exploiting “safe zones.”
Homan defended the policy shift in an interview with ABC News, stating: “There are consequences of entering the country illegally. If we don’t show there are consequences, you’re never going to fix the border problem.”
The aggressive enforcement efforts have drawn criticism from Catholic Charities USA, which called for humane treatment of migrants.
In a statement, the organization acknowledged the government’s responsibility to enforce immigration laws but warned against carrying out non-emergency raids in sensitive locations such as schools, places of worship, healthcare facilities, and social service centers.
“All people have a right to fulfill their duty to God without fear,” the organization stated, urging for a “targeted, proportional, and humane” approach to enforcement.

As Trump’s administration pushes forward with its crackdown, the scale of deportation efforts is expected to grow in the coming weeks, with more ICE deployments planned across the country.
