90-Year-Old Vet Shot, Run Over With His Own Car During Carjacking In Houston [VIDEOS]

A 90-year-old Navy veteran was tragically killed during a suspected carjacking outside a senior living facility in Houston this past Saturday, according to reports from KPRC 2.

The veteran, referred to by witnesses as “Mr. Nelson,” was fatally shot before the suspect allegedly ran him over with his own car while fleeing the scene.

The violent altercation began with an argument outside the senior residence, which quickly escalated. “I heard arguing, men arguing. And next thing I know, I heard a gunshot. So, I ducked back into my garage,” recounted Rod Bosson, a neighbor who resides near Nelson’s apartment complex.

The confrontation turned deadly when, after shooting Mr. Nelson, the suspect reportedly commandeered Nelson’s vehicle, running him over in the process.

The suspect subsequently abandoned the vehicle at an apartment complex approximately three miles from the crime scene, continuing to evade law enforcement.

Despite a swift response from first responders, efforts to save Mr. Nelson proved futile. He was pronounced dead shortly after at a local hospital.

Rod Bosson, who had seen Mr. Nelson heading out to run errands moments before the fatal incident, told KHOU 11 about the struggle that ensued. “He had his little shopping cart, and a scuffle ensued,” Bosson explained. “They say he put up a good fight. That’s when he got shot. As the suspect backed up, he hit (the victim).”

The Houston Police Department, who indicated that Mr. Nelson did not know his attacker, described the suspect as “armed and dangerous” and currently on the run. This incident has shaken the community, particularly because it occurred in a retirement community where residents are seen as vulnerable.

Bosson expressed his dismay over the attack, underscoring the severity of the crime against the elderly. “I’m sad, upset, frustrated. I mean, you’re attacking elderly people… It’s a shame what happened. It’s a retirement community. It’s a shame they look at them as easy targets,” he told KHOU 11.

Houston Police Lt. Jonathan French reflected the community’s outrage, describing the act as “pathetic as it gets.”

The police have yet to provide a detailed description of the suspect but are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

This brutal act has not only left a community grieving but has also ignited concerns about safety and security for vulnerable populations in Houston and beyond.
