Luigi Mangione, the accused killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, released his first public statement this week, expressing gratitude to his supporters.

The message appeared on a newly launched website created by his legal defense team to counter misinformation and provide updates on his case.

“I am overwhelmed by – and grateful for – everyone who has written me to share their stories and express their support,” Mangione stated.

He is currently being held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center.

“Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe. While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive,” he continued.

“Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.”

The statement was released just days after Mangione accepted nearly $300,000 in donations from more than 10,000 donors who contributed to his legal defense.

Mangione, 26, faces charges of first-degree murder in furtherance of terrorism for the December 4 assassination of Thompson outside a Midtown hotel in New York City.

Prosecutors allege he shot the 50-year-old health care executive and father of two in cold blood before fleeing the scene.

Following an intense five-day manhunt, Mangione was arrested in Pennsylvania.

Authorities have linked him to a manifesto in which he criticized the health care industry.

Since his arrest, Mangione has pleaded not guilty to multiple state and federal charges connected to the killing.

If convicted in his federal case, he could face the death penalty.

The website featuring Mangione’s statement was confirmed as legitimate by Rolling Stone, though his attorney, Karen Friedman Agnifilo, did not immediately respond to media inquiries regarding its creation.

Mangione’s case continues to draw national attention as he awaits trial, with legal proceedings expected to intensify in the coming months.
