A migrant from Afghanistan who had been living in Stockholm entered the United Kingdom and was put on trial for threatening to kill Nigel Farage of the UK Reform Party. Today, he was found guilty by a jury. There’s a long backstory to this one so let’s start at the beginning.

Last year, an Afghan named Fayaz Khan decided to travel from Stockholm, Sweden, where he’d been living for a few years, to England. Khan, who went by the name “Madapasa,” had a large following on TikTok and so he created several videos depicting his journey from Sweden to the UK. Last October, Nigel Farage caught wind of these videos and made a video of his own titled “The journey of an illegal migrant.”

The gist of it is that Khan/Madapasa was on the verge of entering the UK by illegally crossing the English channel and, under the Labour government of Keir Starmer, he would be put up in a hotel and allowed to stay in the UK forever. Farage argued that Khan looked like someone most people wouldn’t want in their neighborhoods. “I’ll be told that I’m being beastly,” Farage said. He continued, “I’m being mean because he’s a poor refuge in need. You can see he’s none of those things. Actually, he’s here for a life to make money. He’s here to lord it over us.

“Folks, these are the sort of people who are crossing the English channel.”

Just as Farage had somehow learned of Khan’s videos, Khan learned about Farage’s video featuring him as an example of the kind of people the UK should be deporting. He quickly made a response on TikTok. Here’s the video in which he threatens to kill Farage. “Delete the video. This not good my friend. You not know me. I gonna come to England. I gonna pop, pop, pop, murder.” [Note: All of the stories I’ve seen talk about the pop, pop, pop but I don’t see any that mention the word “murder.” Am I mishearing this? It seems clear to me but it’s not mentioned anywhere that I’ve seen.]

He also published another video in which he doubled down on his theat.

A subsequent TikTok post by Khan read: “I mean what I say” on an image of a GB News report about the threat against Mr Farage.

Khan was stopped when he eventually crossed the channel. He was interviewed and denied any intention to kill Farage.

In a police interview on 1 November last year, Khan said through an interpreter that he had attempted to come to the UK “10 times” and was in Dunkirk, France, when he recorded the video in which he is alleged to have made a threat to kill Mr Farage.

Khan told police: “I come here because I want to live here. I want new life. I don’t come here because I want to kill Nigel Farage.”

He also said that he had been smoking cannabis and was “high” at the time of posting the video.

But Khan went on trial and this week Farage testified that he considered it a real threat on his life.

Mr Farage, who was at court for the trial, said the video was “pretty chilling”.

“Given his proximity to guns and love of guns, I was genuinely worried,” he said.

“He says he’s coming to England and he’s going to shoot me.”

After a three day trial in which Khan presented no defense, a jury found him guilty. Today, Farage released a video noting the outcome and the fact that he knew Khan was already facing charges in Sweden at the time he made his first video about this last year.

The London Times describes another incident in which he threatened two women on a train in Sweden.

Khan attacked a woman train conductor in Sweden when she tried to eject him because he did not have a ticket in February 2019. The migrant — then using his real name, Fayaz Hosseini — threatened the woman and passenger who intervened to help, court records show.

“Fayaz Hosseini draws his finger across his neck towards her and the passenger with whom he has been arguing,” it is recorded. “She perceives it as a threat to both of them.”

“Fayaz Hosseini says that he is going to ‘p*** on her’, ‘cut’ her and ‘f***’ her … He was very angry and irritated with her. She felt threatened and was afraid that he would attack her.”

He’s also been charged with other crimes in Sweden.

Khan was sentenced to six months in jail in May last year after TikTok viewers called police as he live-streamed himself carrying a large knife in a shopping centre in Nacka. He fled the country while waiting to appeal against the jail sentence in November last year and crossed into the UK on October 31.

His criminal record includes a two-month jail sentence in February 2023 for drug offences and for carrying a knife in 2020.

Khan pleaded guilty to entering the UK illegally and is facing up to 12 months for that crime. He’ll also be sentenced on the threat against Farage. It’s not clear if he’ll be deported back to Sweden to face charges there. They were trying to get him returned to face charges on the knife crime but they dropped that request last month. He apparently can’t be deported back to Afghanistan so it’s unclear what comes next for this charming new arrival.

Ian Collins reacts to the news Afghan migrant Fayaz Khan, 26, has been found guilty of making a threat to kill Nigel Farage.
