Attorney General Pam Bondi announced this week that federal authorities have seized over 22 million fentanyl-laced pills since President Donald Trump took office in January, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The announcement came on Fentanyl Awareness Day, as the administration marked its efforts to combat the nation’s escalating opioid crisis.

Pam Bondi, a former Attorney General of Florida, appearing at the Conservative Political Action Conference, CPAC 2024, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on Feb 23, 2024.

“Today is Fentanyl Awareness Day,” Bondi wrote on Tuesday in a post on X. “In President Trump’s first 100 days, we’ve seized over 22 million fentanyl-laced pills, saving over 119 million lives.”

Bondi emphasized that the administration remains committed to eradicating fentanyl from American communities.

“We are fighting relentlessly for the families of loved ones lost, for those whose lives are at risk, and for the soul of our nation. We will not rest until this poison is off our streets and those peddling it are behind bars,” she said.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid up to 50 times more powerful than heroin, has driven a surge in overdose deaths across the country. The drug is often pressed into counterfeit pills or mixed into other narcotics, frequently without the user’s knowledge.

According to public health officials, fentanyl is now responsible for more than 100,000 American deaths each year.

Much of the fentanyl entering the United States is manufactured in China, then trafficked through Mexico, where drug cartels press it into pills made to look like prescription medications.

Yesterday, @AGPamBondi toured the @DEAHQ forensic lab for a firsthand look at how experts detect and disrupt the spread of illicit fentanyl.

The pills are then smuggled into the United States, primarily through the southern border.

On his first day in office, President Trump designated Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations. The move expanded the federal government’s authority to pursue individuals and networks connected to cartel operations.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has stated that military options remain under consideration in dealing with cartel threats.

Pete Hegseth delivers remarks during a Senate Armed Services committee hearing on his expected nomination to be Secretary of Defense on Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2025 in Washington, DC..

“All options will be on the table if we’re dealing with what are designated to be foreign terrorist organizations who are specifically targeting Americans on our border,” Hegseth said in February.

The announcement from Bondi highlights the Trump administration’s early push to aggressively confront the nation’s fentanyl epidemic using both law enforcement and national security tools.
