Alex Soros Condemns DC Israeli Embassy Murders, Forgets He Funds Israel’s Enemies

Alex Soros, chair of the Open Society Foundation and son of billionaire George Soros, is facing sharp criticism following his public condemnation of the killing of two Israeli embassy staffers, despite his foundation’s financial ties to groups that have actively opposed Israel.

In a post on X, Soros called the murders of Sarah Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky “evil in its most basic form,” and urged that the “brutal antisemitic act must be condemned in the strongest terms.” Milgrim and Lischinsky, Israeli nationals who were reportedly engaged, were fatally shot Wednesday night outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C.

Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Elias Rodriguez.

According to police reports, Rodriguez was seen loitering outside the museum before he approached a small group and opened fire, killing the two Israeli staffers.

After the attack, he entered the museum and was detained by security.

While in custody, Rodriguez allegedly shouted “Free, free Palestine!”

Though Soros publicly denounced the killings, his post was met with backlash from users who accused him and the Open Society Foundation of contributing to a climate of hostility against Israel.

Many pointed to OSF’s support for organizations critical of the Jewish state, and some suggested that Soros’ financial influence had helped fuel anti-Israel sentiment.

“You are behind the hate,” wrote another, who rejected Soros’ statement as disingenuous.

Another account claimed that Soros “funds the revolutionary Marxist group the shooter belonged to,” although no official confirmation has been made regarding Rodriguez’s affiliations at this time.

Alex Soros, who succeeded his father as chair of OSF in 2023, has overseen continued funding of several organizations that have accused Israel of genocide and called for the dissolution of the Jewish state.

These include Human Rights Watch and J Street—both of which have faced criticism in Israel for what some officials describe as hostile stances toward the country.

Israel’s Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Social Equality, Amichai Chikli, spoke out last year about the Soros family’s influence, calling Alex Soros “a replica of his father.”

Chikli told Fox News Digital in 2023 that Israel had “no expectation” that Soros would reverse course or adopt a pro-Israel posture.

Chikli also criticized OSF for its funding of the NGO Adalah, which he described as opposing Israel’s identity as a Jewish state and promoting narratives that portray Israel as a colonial and immoral entity.

George Soros has long been a controversial figure in Israel.

In December 2023, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan accused him of donating more than $15 million to a network of NGOs allegedly tied to Hamas or supportive of the BDS movement, which calls for boycotts, divestment, and sanctions against Israel.

“George Soros’ donations to organizations that seek the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state is shameful,” Erdan told Fox News Digital.

“They have never been about real peace or any solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

The Capital Jewish Museum shooting remains under investigation by local and federal authorities. Rodriguez is currently in custody as police continue to determine his motives and any possible affiliations.
