Alina Habba, once one of Donald Trump’s lead attorneys, has officially transitioned into her new role as Counselor to the President, a position that places her among the administration’s top advisers.

After years spent defending Trump in court, Habba is now focused on advancing his policy agenda and reversing what she describes as the failures of the previous administration.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com at the White House, Habba detailed her new responsibilities and the direction of the administration.

Habba now works steps away from the Oval Office, frequently communicating with Trump and serving as a top spokesperson for his administration.

She also makes regular appearances on Fox News to discuss policy initiatives.

Her primary focus, she says, is on correcting what she and Trump view as the mistakes of the Biden-Harris administration.

“Right now, our primary focus is on fixing what the last administration messed up, which was much of our country – the economy, safety, security, the opioid crisis, children’s education, all of those things,” Habba said.

She pointed to Trump’s numerous executive orders signed in his first days back in office as evidence of this effort.

“And I think you’re seeing that with what’s happened in the executive orders that the president’s put out,” she added while speaking on the White House North Lawn.

Trump’s decision to appoint Habba as Counselor to the President follows months of speculation. The role was previously held by Kellyanne Conway during Trump’s first term.

Habba describes the position as broad in scope, allowing her to engage in multiple policy areas.

“Counselor to the president is a great job because you’re an advisor, but you’re also in a position where you can dive into pretty much anything you want to really get your feet wet in,” she explained.

While her role is still evolving, she expects to collaborate with various teams across the administration.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if I work with everybody at some point,” Habba said.

“This is very much an open-door situation here. People that are walking through and working together, it’s been incredibly collaborative. There has been absolutely no drama, and it has been tremendously productive, I think.”

She credited White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who played a key role in Trump’s 2024 campaign, for assembling a strong team.

“President Trump knew what he was doing, [and] Susie Wiles, in particular, knew what she was doing when she selected the people that were coming into the West Wing, the people that were going to be around the president, and the people that were going to support his agenda,” Habba stated.

Habba’s rise in Trump’s inner circle began in 2019 when she met him at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf course. She soon joined his legal team as he faced an increasing number of lawsuits and investigations.

Throughout Trump’s legal battles, Habba became a prominent figure, frequently speaking outside courthouses and defending Trump against what she called politically motivated prosecutions.

She later transitioned into a campaign role during Trump’s 2024 presidential run, making her presence felt at major events, including a speaking slot at the Republican National Convention.

Habba acknowledges that her responsibilities in the White House are still taking shape but says she is ready to serve wherever needed.

“What do you see as No. 1 – this is Alina Habba’s role?” she was asked in the interview.

“I haven’t decided that yet,” she admitted. “I’ll say that I’m in everything right now, helping in ways that I can. I’m being used when asked. And my opinion is obviously an important one.”

Among the administration’s top priorities is restoring public trust in the Department of Justice. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi has been nominated to lead the DOJ, and her nomination was voted out of committee on Wednesday.

Habba, who played a key role in defending Trump in court, emphasized the importance of reforming the Justice Department.

“Some of the changes we’re making, obviously at the DOJ and areas like that, are top of mind and important,” she said.

“Because I was a part of that witch hunt, and it really, truly was a witch hunt.”

As Habba settles into her new role at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, she remains focused on Trump’s agenda and says she is determined to make a difference.

“I’m really proud to be part of the administration. I’m looking forward to doing a lot of good work here for the taxpayers,” she said.

With her legal background and close relationship with Trump, Habba is positioned to be a key player in shaping the administration’s policies and messaging in the years ahead.
