Amazon Studios has announced an exclusive partnership with Melania Trump and director Brett Ratner for an upcoming documentary about the former and incoming first lady.

The project, described by the studio as “an unprecedented, behind-the-scenes look” at Melania Trump, will be released both theatrically and on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.

First Lady Melania Trump kisses her son Barron just after midnight at Mar-a-Lago Club on December 31, 2016 in Palm Beach.

The documentary, which began filming in December 2024, will be executive produced by Melania Trump herself, alongside Fernando Sulichin of New Element Media.

The timing aligns with the political resurgence of Donald Trump, who secured a decisive victory in the 2024 presidential election, paving the way for his return to the White House in January 2025.

Amazon plans to release the film in the second half of 2025.

Brett Ratner’s involvement in the project marks his return to major productions after years away from Hollywood.

LOS ANGELES – APRIL 26: Brett Ratner at the celebrity chef, restaurateur Wolfgang Puck’s Hollywood walk of fame star receiving ceremony at Hollywood Blvd on April 26, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA.

Ratner, known for directing hits like Rush Hour, has faced significant controversy since 2017, when six women accused him of sexual misconduct in a Los Angeles Times exposé.

In response, Warner Bros. ended its first-look deal with Ratner, and he publicly stepped back from his Hollywood activities, stating, “I don’t want to have any possible negative impact to the studio until these personal issues are resolved.”

In addition, Ratner was implicated in the 2019 scandal that led to Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara’s resignation.

Text messages between Ratner and actress Charlotte Kirk revealed allegations that Kirk was used as leverage in business dealings with the studio.

Ratner has denied all allegations against him.

Friends of Ratner have reportedly suggested that he views documentary filmmaking as a pathway back into the industry, given its lower production costs and later-stage distribution requirements.

Ratner had previously considered directing a documentary about actor Anthony Hopkins but ultimately shifted his focus to this project with Melania Trump.

While details of how Ratner gained Melania Trump’s trust remain unclear, the two share a past connection.

Ratner directed the 2011 film Tower Heist, which prominently featured the Trump International Hotel & Tower as a filming location.

NEW YORK – OCTOBER 24: Donald and Melania Trump attend the premiere of “Tower Heist” at the Ziegfeld Theatre on October 24, 2011 in New York City.

Donald Trump, then a private citizen, visited the set during production.

Since stepping back from Hollywood, Ratner has reportedly spent time in his native Miami, mingling in social circles that overlap with the Mar-a-Lago community.

An Amazon spokesperson expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, saying, “Prime Video will be sharing more details on the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized.

We are excited to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world.”

Amazon’s involvement in the project is notable, as major studios typically acquire documentaries after their debut at film festivals rather than participating in early production stages.

This strategic move signals Amazon’s confidence in the film’s potential to resonate with audiences worldwide.

Joining Melania Trump and Ratner is producer Fernando Sulichin, whose previous work includes collaborations with high-profile filmmakers such as Sean Penn and Oliver Stone.

Sulichin’s credits include Flag Day and Superpower, as well as documentaries on figures like Edward Snowden and Luiz Inácio “Lula” da Silva.

As filming continues, the documentary promises to offer a closer look at Melania Trump’s life, including her time as first lady and her return to the national spotlight.
