Republican Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona on Wednesday accused Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar and Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom of inspiring “crazies” to carry out violent actions like the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Four Republicans joined Democrats to defeat a resolution to censure Omar for comments she made about Kirk during a Sept. 11 appearance on Zeteo News, where she told host Mehdi Hasan that those defending Kirk’s campus appearances were “full of shit,” later doubling down during a Sunday interview with former CNN host Don Lemon. After “The Story” host Martha MacCallum played an excerpt from the interview and noted a post on X where the press office for Newsom called White House deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller a “fascist,” Biggs responded. “That is the kind of rhetoric that charges up people who are not quite stable or who are looking for a way, an outlet that includes violence and so it is mind-boggling to me that you have people that profess to be tolerant of others exhibiting this intolerance,” Biggs said. “Not just intolerance but open hatred and dehumanizing of people. When you do that and that is what inspires radical crazies to come out and engage in violence and we don’t want that and that is the point. I am just appalled by what they said.”
Republican Gov. Spencer Cox of Utah outlined some of the evidence recovered in the course of the manhunt for Tyler Robinson, who is accused of firing the shot that fatally wounded Kirk, during both a Sept. 12 press conference and on Sunday shows, including ABC’s “This Week” and “State of the Union” on CNN that aired Sept. 14. Multiple outlets also reported on Robinson’s “leftist” ideology and left-wing slogans etched on the ammunition in the rifle.
The Department of Homeland Security blamed Democratic Gov. J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson of Chicago for a Friday riot at a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility near the Windy City in a post on X, citing their attacks on the agency.
“Illinois @GovPritzker and @ChicagosMayor Brandon Johnson’s nonstop demonization of ICE has fueled the frenzied riots at the ICE facility in Broadview, Illinois,” DHS said. “Since September 19, violent rioters have repeatedly attacked this ICE facility. DHS and law enforcement have arrested 17 of these violent rioters on multiple charges including obstruction and assault on a federal officer.”
Two people were killed during a shooting at an ICE office in Dallas on Sept. 24, with the gunman taking his own life. In Texas, there were two previous incidents where shots were fired at ICE or Border Patrol facilities since July 4, with ten people being charged with attempted murder in connection with the former incident.
