Government Accountability Institute President Peter Schweizer is calling for former CIA Director Gina Haspel to be investigated over her possible involvement in the origins and suppression of the debunked Russia collusion narrative.
Schweizer made the remarks during an appearance Sunday on Fox News Channel’s Sunday Morning Futures.
Schweizer specifically raised questions about Haspel’s positioning in London during the time when the now-discredited Steele dossier and other intelligence alleging ties between Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia were being circulated.

He pointed to her 2014 reassignment by then-CIA Director John Brennan to the agency’s London post, a move he described as “highly unusual.”
“One name I’d like to see out there more is Gina Haspel,” Schweizer said.
“She was the CIA director, appointed by Donald Trump. She certainly had access to this material. It’s interesting to me that she was the London chief of the CIA in the 2000s. In 2014, CIA Director John Brennan sent her back there, which was a highly unusual move, and she was there during this period. Much of the fake Russia collusion intel, from Steele and others, was coming out of London.”
Schweizer added, “So, what role did she play in creating this? And also, what role did she play in suppressing it when she was CIA director and she was supposed to be serving Donald Trump rather than the CIA establishment?”

Haspel served as Director of the CIA from May 2018 to January 2021.
Prior to that, she held a number of overseas and senior intelligence positions, including her time as London station chief, a post that would have put her in proximity to key figures involved in the early dissemination of Russia-related claims.
The dossier, compiled by former British intelligence officer Christopher Steele, was later discredited, and its funding by the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s 2016 campaign was confirmed.
It was a key component in the FBI’s surveillance efforts during the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.
Schweizer’s comments come amid continued scrutiny of intelligence and law enforcement actions taken during the Obama administration and into the early years of President Trump’s term, as more details have emerged about coordination between domestic and foreign operatives involved in generating and advancing the Trump-Russia narrative.
In the same segment, Schweizer also addressed concerns about President Joe Biden’s public performance and the denial by former staffers that they witnessed any mental decline.
“The notion that White House staffers were insisting that ‘he seems fine to us’ is ridiculous,” Schweizer said.
“Just look at the numbers. In 2021, he had 58 known phone calls with foreign leaders. By 2024, that was down to 20. Look at the press conferences. He went from having nine solo press conferences to zero in 2024. There were conscious decisions being made to make sure he was not being exposed to the public.”
Joe Biden had faced increased public and media scrutiny over his limited press access and tightly controlled public appearances.
Former White House aides have defended the president, insisting he remained capable of performing his duties.
However, Schweizer’s remarks pointed to a pattern of decreasing public engagement, raising questions about internal decision-making at the White House.
As calls grow for greater transparency and accountability from current and former intelligence and executive officials, Schweizer’s comments suggest a broader inquiry could include those like Haspel who held strategic positions during key developments in the Russia collusion controversy.
