Anthony Edwards came back from All Star weekend, brought the scoring with him, and added another mark to the Minnesota Timberwolves record book in a 122-111 win over the Dallas Mavericks at the Target Center.
Edwards finished with 40 points as Minnesota improved to 35-22 and held off a late Dallas push. The win was Minnesota’s third straight, while Dallas dropped its 10th consecutive game. Edwards scored 14 points in the fourth quarter and delivered key baskets after the Mavericks erased most of a 17 point first half deficit.
The game tightened when Dallas closed a 12-2 run and tied it at 103 with 6:55 left. Minnesota responded quickly. Edwards hit a step back 3 pointer, Naz Reid added another three less than a minute later, and the Timberwolves closed on an 11-4 run to put the game away. Edwards scored seven points in the final 2:27, including a floating jumper, a pull up from the elbow, and a 3 pointer from the left corner.

The bigger number for Minnesota was not just the 40 on the scoreboard. It was what that 40 represented in franchise history.
Edwards’ performance was his 27th career game with at least 40 points, extending his Timberwolves franchise record. That puts him 14 clear of Karl Anthony Towns, who is second in team history with 13 such games. The gap is notable because Edwards is still only in his sixth NBA season and has already created separation in one of the franchise’s top scoring categories.
He also now has eight 40 point games this season. His season high and career high remains the 55 point game he scored on Jan. 17 against San Antonio. His averages for the season sit at 29.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists across 47 games. He logged a 27.6 scoring average in the previous season.
Minnesota got plenty beyond Edwards on Friday. Rudy Gobert finished with 22 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks, and Naz Reid added 21 points off the bench. Julius Randle scored 13 points. The Timberwolves jumped out early with a 40-25 first quarter and led 69-57 at halftime before Dallas made its run in the second half. Donte DiVincenzo helped fuel the opening surge by hitting three 3 pointers in the first six minutes.

Edwards also made it clear after the game that he is focused on the standings, not just the stat line. “We’ve got 25 more, hopefully we can go 25-0.” That quote landed after another scoring outburst, but it also matches Minnesota’s position in a crowded Western Conference race where the Timberwolves entered the night in fifth place.

For Minnesota, the immediate takeaway was simple: the post All Star reset started with a win, and the offense again ran through Edwards when the game got tight. For Edwards, it was another 40 point game, another franchise record extension, and another reminder that the Timberwolves are now working with a player who keeps moving his own standard higher.
