You can add another term to the long list of hate words and phrases: America First.
Perhaps not as bad as using terms like “master file” or “slave drive”–words that clearly are not about the innocent things they purport to refer to but rather to whites longing to return to Antebellum times–but perhaps it is even worse. America First is, after all, associated with oppressing others as well.
Yes, it’s real. https://t.co/eIQgirWPGo

There are other codewords for hate, such as using the term “my heart goes out to you.” Elon Musk said it, so of course, it is hateful according to the ADL. And no, that is not parody. Follow the link, read it, and weep.
“Every single time,” too, is code for Jew hatred. No doubt some antisemites use the term, but some antisemites like dogs as well. Not everybody with a German Shepherd is a Nazi, and there are more reliable ways to determine one’s ideology than finding code in innocent terms.
“Noticing,” too, is a dangerous phrase indicative of a deep hatred of Jews. Have you noticed that? I hadn’t.
The more you know…
Even the Constitution is a hate phrase, apparently, or at least the 14th Amendment is. Apparently, some “sovereign citizens” talk about the 14th Amendment a lot–I have no idea and don’t care–and since bad people mention it, it somehow is a really bad thing. The 14th Amendment–one of the post-Civil War amendments– is frequently cited by the Supreme Court in cases where states may be violating citizens’ civil rights. I’m unclear how mentioning this amendment makes the Supreme Court a hotbed of hate speech, but there you go…
What about “19th President?” Apparently, it, too, is somehow related to sovereign citizens. I guess they say it, so it must be hateful.
Perhaps the worst phrase of them, though, is “5 Words.” No, there is no Nazi meaning to the phrase–it is shorthand for “I have nothing to say” (to the police). Apparently, following every lawyer’s advice to clients is hateful now.
The list goes on, and on, and on… Everything is hate speech if it is said by somebody you don’t like to begin with.
Basically, the ADL starts with the bad guy and works their way backward. If the wrong person says it, it is de facto evil to say it.
Now there are, indeed, some codewords that groups use to recognize each other, but when groups like the ADL or the Southern Poverty Law Center start labeling everything and everyone they disagree with a “hate group” or “code word” or “dog whistle,” the whole concept becomes meaningless.
Republicans are no longer afraid of being called “phobes” or “Nazis” because these are empty terms–codewords, if you will, for “I don’t like you.”
Given that liberals now side with actual Nazi-clones such as Hamas and Iran, why bother even responding to their absurdities? The terms have as much meaning as inarticulate grunts.
Back when I was directly involved in politics, I always advised politicians to forget worrying about what Democrats would say about them. As weak-kneed politicians were too scared to do something good because they would be slandered for it, I advised them that Democrats would say the same thing no matter what they did.
The script is already written. Just do the right thing.
Unfortunately, nobody listened, which is why Minnesota is so dominated by Democrats. Republicans quit caring about their politicians because, on the whole, they were scared and useless. Why bother?
Trump broke the mold. He is fearless. More than that, he leans into the criticism. He baits them, and it works by exposing the emptiness of the accusations.
Groups like the ADL and the SPLC are the real hate groups. They are driven mad by the existence of Republicans.
So mad, in fact, that they find “America First” to be hate speech.
Geez.
