A Los Angeles protester says he suffered severe injuries during clashes with law enforcement in downtown Los Angeles this week, as unrest continues across the city tied to the “No Kings” demonstrations opposing President Trump and federal immigration enforcement operations.

Martin Santoyo, 33, told KTLA that he was shot in the groin with a rubber bullet by a police officer during a protest on Monday near Temple Street.

According to Santoyo, the impact of the projectile severely bruised one testicle and “shattered” the other.

He said the incident occurred after he dismounted his bicycle in the middle of the crowd gathered at the protest site.

“It sucks to sit down,” Santoyo told the station, noting that he is now at home recovering and unable to walk.

He added that he did not hear any announcement from law enforcement declaring the event an unlawful gathering prior to the incident.

The injury occurred during the same week that anti-ICE protests escalated into citywide riots, prompting a coordinated law enforcement response.

Demonstrations have been held daily as part of the “No Kings” protest movement, which includes organized opposition to federal immigration policies under President Trump’s administration.

The protests have drawn thousands into the streets and have frequently resulted in confrontations with police.

Saturday’s events marked a significant escalation, as protestors reportedly assaulted officers and vandalized property in various parts of Los Angeles.

Law enforcement reported being targeted with commercial-grade fireworks, rocks, and other projectiles during attempts to disperse the crowds.

In response to the rising unrest, the Trump administration federalized the California National Guard and authorized the deployment of hundreds of U.S. Marines to protect federal buildings and other key locations throughout Los Angeles.

National Guard personnel and federal troops have been positioned to assist local and state law enforcement agencies in managing the ongoing protests and securing critical infrastructure.

The Los Angeles Police Department, along with the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, continues to coordinate its efforts to ensure safety around federal buildings and ICE facilities, which have been the focus of protests and attempted break-ins.

City officials have yet to respond directly to Santoyo’s account of the incident.

The LAPD has stated that the department is reviewing use-of-force incidents and that officers have been instructed to follow protocols related to crowd control and non-lethal munitions.

Federal and local officials have reiterated that while peaceful protests are permitted, violence directed toward law enforcement officers or federal property will not be tolerated.

President Trump’s administration has emphasized that operations by ICE and DHS will continue, regardless of demonstrations or threats to personnel.

Investigations into multiple incidents involving injuries and property damage remain ongoing.
