Anti-Trump Comedian Praises President For Maduro Operation

Comedy Central host Jon Stewart praised President Donald Trump Monday, saying former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro “oversaw a repressive regime” before he was “reverse-ICEd.”

Trump announced in a Saturday post on Truth Social that federal law enforcement officers arrested Maduro and his wife in Caracas while military units, including the United States Army’s elite Delta Force commando unit, protected the operation. Stewart appeared to humorously chide staffers as they first flashed photos of Trump with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Sultan, Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un and the villain from “Stranger Things” before they flashed Maduro’s picture. “I’m talking about the now-former president of Venezuela, Nicolas Maduro, who was reverse-ICEd and imported – he was actually imported to a jail in Brooklyn. But don’t feel bad. He was a feared and cruel dictator,” Stewart said, pausing as a video clip of Maduro signing “Don’t Worry, Be Happy played.”

“Bobby McFerrin karaoke? You monster,” Stewart continued. “Look, I know that clip makes him seem benign, almost kind of comical, but the truth is, Maduro oversaw a repressive regime that impoverished his nation, silenced dissent, and killed thousands.”

Maduro suspended the primary election win of an opposition leader shortly after the Biden administration lifted sanctions in October 2023. Maduro claimed to have won reelection in July, but the victory was not recognized by the United States and dozens of other countries.

“His iron rule and a cappella terror came to an end on Friday night, when U.S. special forces raided Caracas – Venezuela’s only city, as far as we know – and snatched Nicolas Maduro out of his bedroom, apparently before he could even take off his sleep mask,” Stewart said. “His Oura ring must have been like, ‘you had a bad night. You did not get good, deep sleep.’”

Congressional Democrats decried the operation as an illegal act of war, with Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer of New York saying he was sponsoring a resolution alongside Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia and Republican Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky to invoke the War Powers Act to halt further operations.

Maduro appeared in a Manhattan court on Monday to be arraigned on charges involving narco-terrorism conspiracy and cocaine importation conspiracy in addition to weapons charges. The former dictator and his wife have pleaded not guilty.
