President Donald Trump announced Saturday that he had authorized the deployment of U.S. troops to Portland, Oregon, citing escalating anti-ICE violence in the city.

The decision comes after weeks of demonstrations and attacks on federal immigration facilities attributed to Antifa and affiliated groups.

“I am directing Secretary of War, Pete Hegseth, to provide all necessary Troops to protect War ravaged Portland, and any of our ICE Facilities under siege from attack by Antifa, and other domestic terrorists,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added that the forces are authorized to use “full force” if required to secure federal property and personnel.

The announcement followed reports of Antifa-linked organizers planning a “direct action” demonstration at the Portland ICE facility scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

Federal sources said the event was expected to draw agitators from outside the immediate Portland area.

Though it is unclear when the full deployment will take place, a federal presence was already seen Friday night prior to Trump’s official statement.

Witnesses observed security forces and tactical units preparing near the ICE facility, with additional reinforcements anticipated.

On Saturday night, activity around the Portland facility escalated as Antifa-affiliated demonstrators gathered.

Video posted online showed confrontations outside the compound.

Katie Daviscourt, an investigative reporter with The Post Millennial, reported live from the scene.

“It’s mass chaos tonight outside the ICE facility. Agitators appear to be furious about military deployment,” she wrote.

The deployment order marks one of the strongest federal responses to unrest in Portland since the height of protests in previous years.

The city has long been a focal point for confrontations between Antifa groups and federal law enforcement, particularly over immigration enforcement policies and ICE operations.

In recent weeks, ICE facilities nationwide have been targeted by demonstrators staging blockades and vandalism.

Federal officials said Portland remained a priority due to the scale of protests and the city’s history of unrest.

Trump’s order to Secretary Hegseth reflects a broader strategy to reinforce federal sites considered at risk of continued attacks.

Local law enforcement agencies in Oregon have not commented publicly on the deployment.

State officials also did not immediately respond to requests for information about coordination between federal and state authorities.

The situation is expected to continue developing through the weekend, with heightened security measures in place as federal forces prepare for potential clashes.

Officials have not disclosed how many troops will ultimately be assigned to Portland, though military transport vehicles and personnel were confirmed in the vicinity as of Saturday night.

The upcoming Antifa “direct action” event is anticipated to test the federal deployment, as organizers have promoted it across multiple social media channels.

Authorities said contingency plans are in place to respond to disturbances both at the ICE facility and in surrounding neighborhoods.

Federal officials reiterated that ICE operations will continue without interruption despite threats from activist groups.

The federal deployment in Portland marks a significant escalation in efforts to secure immigration facilities and maintain order amid ongoing opposition demonstrations.
