A new poll out of New York City has delivered a significant blow to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, showing him trailing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez by a wide margin among Democratic voters—including Jewish Democrats, a group long seen as central to Schumer’s political base, as reported by The Western Journal.
According to a poll conducted by the Honan Strategy Group for the Jewish Voters Action Network, Ocasio-Cortez leads Schumer 54 percent to 33 percent among New York City Democrats.
Among Jewish Democratic voters, the congresswoman also holds a notable lead—45 percent to Schumer’s 38 percent.

The survey was conducted between May 15 and May 18 and included responses from 1,136 registered Democrats, with a margin of error of ±2.89 percentage points.
The data signals major vulnerabilities for Schumer, a longtime fixture in New York politics and the first Jewish lawmaker to serve as Senate majority leader.
“This is a massive wake-up call for Schumer,” said Maury Litwack, co-founder of the Jewish Voters Action Network.
“He’s not only bleeding support in the Democratic Party overall but also in the Jewish community.”

Twelve percent of Democrats overall were undecided, along with 17 percent of Jewish Democrats.

Schumer’s political standing has eroded in recent months as members of the party’s progressive wing have pushed for a change in Senate leadership.
Much of the backlash traces back to Schumer’s decision to accept Republican budget terms earlier this year—after previously condemning similar tactics by Republicans during past standoffs under Democrat-led White Houses.
Progressives, already frustrated by his cautious approach to party infighting and policy negotiation, began floating Ocasio-Cortez as a primary challenger in March.
That chatter turned more serious following a string of polls showing her with double-digit leads. An earlier April poll from the left-leaning group Data for Progress showed Ocasio-Cortez ahead 55 percent to 36 percent statewide.
The latest numbers are raising new questions among party insiders about whether Schumer can withstand a primary from Ocasio-Cortez, who is widely believed to be positioning herself for a 2028 presidential run.

Many political strategists point to the difficulty of launching a successful White House bid directly from the House, suggesting a Senate seat would give her a stronger platform.
Concerns have also grown within the Jewish community over Ocasio-Cortez’s stance on Israel.
The congresswoman has labeled Israel’s response to Hamas a “genocide” and is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, which supports the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.
“The leading Jewish elected official in the nation did not step up in a moment of rising anti-Semitism — and the poll reflects that,” Litwack added, referencing Schumer’s perceived lack of vocal leadership following the October 7 Hamas attacks.
As polling trends persist and party anger shows no sign of cooling, a 2026 Senate showdown between Schumer and Ocasio-Cortez appears increasingly likely.
