Heavily armed police swarmed CIA headquarters in Virginia on Wednesday after a man reportedly brandished a firearm and made threats outside the agency’s compound.
The incident unfolded shortly after 10 a.m. at the CIA’s headquarters in McLean, prompting Fairfax County Police to shut down the surrounding road in both directions.
Law enforcement officials described the situation as a “barricade incident,” and the department’s Special Operations Division was deployed to assist, according to posts on X from Fairfax County Police.

A law enforcement official told ABC7 that the suspect pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the building.
However, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported, the official stated.

The CIA issued a statement at 1:24 p.m. confirming the ongoing law enforcement response but did not provide additional details.
The Fairfax County Police Bomb Squad was also dispatched to the scene.
Reports from WUSA9 and ABC7 indicated that the suspect may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
Some local outlets also noted that an armed man in distress had been reported in the area earlier in the day.

Authorities have not released information regarding any potential motives or whether the man had any prior interactions with law enforcement.
This incident occurred just one day after the Trump administration declassified and released newly unredacted documents related to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
There is no indication that the two events are connected.
Fairfax County Police remained on site throughout the day, monitoring the situation.
As of their latest update, no further incidents had been reported.
