Ashley Biden Files for Divorce After 13 Years of Marriage, Snarky Social Media Post Follows

Ashley Biden, the 44-year-old daughter of former President Joe Biden, has filed for divorce from her husband, Dr. Howard Krein, after more than 13 years of marriage, according to court records, as reported by The New York Post.

The filing was submitted Monday in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, The Post confirmed. Krein, 59, is an otolaryngologist and plastic surgeon at Thomas Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. The couple had been living in the city prior to their split.

On the same day the divorce paperwork was filed, Biden posted an Instagram Story featuring a photo of herself walking through a park and giving a thumbs-up, set to Beyoncé’s song “Freedom,” according to the Philadelphia Inquirer, which first reported the filing.

She also shared a quote reading: “New life, new beginnings means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before.”

The cause of the separation is not publicly known, as divorce records in Philadelphia are not open to the public.

Biden and Krein were married in June 2012 in Greenville, Delaware, at the St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, the same church where she was baptized. The ceremony was attended by about 200 guests.

They were introduced in 2010 by Ashley’s late brother, Beau Biden. Krein proposed in late 2011 on a cliff in Big Sur, California, after obtaining permission from then–Vice President Biden.

“This is the right guy,” Joe Biden said at the time, according to People. “And he’s getting a helluva woman.”

Ashley Biden reflected on her wedding last year while introducing her father at the Democratic National Convention. She recalled that while he was serving as vice president, he also took an active role in preparing the reception.

“He was riding around in his John Deere 4-wheeler, fixing the place settings, arranging the plants, and by the way, he was very emotional,” she said.

The couple did not have children together. Representatives for Ashley Biden have not publicly commented on the divorce proceedings.
