Authorities in Aurora are investigating a recent incident involving a group of armed individuals who appeared to be attempting to intimidate residents at an apartment complex, in what police say strongly resembles activity associated with the violent Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua (TdA).

The incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 9 at a complex near East 6th Avenue and Potomac Street. Surveillance video released by the Aurora Police Department shows at least nine individuals, all armed, repeatedly knocking on an apartment door.

The occupants, who had moved into the unit only two days earlier and are originally from Venezuela, did not open the door and were not harmed.

During a press conference, Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain confirmed that the department’s Gang Intervention Unit is leading the investigation.

He emphasized the similarities between this event and a high-profile gang-related apartment takeover that occurred in Aurora in 2024, also linked to Tren de Aragua.

“The scene is very reminiscent of the TdA gang takeover that occurred last year and gained national attention,” Chamberlain said.

“Based upon the involvement, the actions, the behaviors, the demeanor, there is, without question, gang involvement in this, and again, we are going to hold those individuals accountable.”

Chamberlain added that the suspects’ conduct matched known patterns associated with Tren de Aragua, a transnational criminal organization that originated in Venezuelan prisons and has expanded its presence in several U.S. cities.

“When you look at that criminal history of TdA, the way they acted, what they did, it’s very consistent with what we see here,” he said.

“So again, my speculation based on the circumstances, based upon what we know at this time, is that yes, this appears to be a TdA or affiliate TdA involvement.”

Authorities have arrested two suspects in connection with the June 9 incident.

Larry Galbreath was taken into custody and charged with felony menacing with a firearm and violation of a protection order.

Jordan Green, who was initially released on a summons, is now the subject of an active warrant for conspiracy to commit felony menacing and unlawful possession of a weapon.

In addition, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) Denver confirmed that four other individuals have been detained in relation to the case.

Tren de Aragua was previously linked to a 2024 apartment complex takeover in Aurora that made national headlines.

In that case, multiple individuals believed to be associated with the gang were recorded forcibly occupying units and intimidating residents.

Two of the suspects from that incident were later arrested in New York City. Another two were found to be parolees under the Biden-Harris administration.

Chief Chamberlain described the threat posed by TdA as “like a cancer,” warning that continued gang activity in the region will be met with a coordinated law enforcement response.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged members of the public to come forward with any information that may assist in identifying additional suspects.

The Aurora Police Department said it is working closely with federal agencies to track gang-affiliated individuals and prevent further incidents in the community.
